He spelt his name Birty, not Berty.
Birty was likely his real name, not a shortened version of something else, because that’s what he has as first name in the official list of Bootle mayors, which would be unlikely to use abbreviated names.

I don’t know for sure if this is your man, Bill, but:

- The birth of a Birty Wolfenden, at Gisburn about 4 miles NE of Clitheroe, was registered in the 1st quarter 1867.
- In the 4th quarter 1900, a Birty Wolfenden is registered in West Derby district as marrying an Ann Dobson (b. 1874).
- In the 1911 census, Birty and Ann are listed, in the same household, in the West Derby registration district.

I’d be pretty certain Wolfenden Avenue off Southport Road is named after him, because various other avenues and drives in the same area also appear named after past mayors – Clemmey, King, Hankey, Spence, Riley, Cullen.

Hi is the person who created this post still active on this site? My great great uncle was mayor of Bootle and I'd love to know more information about my family. Charlotte

Hi Charlotte I think the original poster has not revisited the site since 2009, however if you list some details of your family there are some great genealogists on this site who will assist you.
