Even though I work for the NHS, I won't be. It's nice to be thanked but I think we're going the way of America, there is no need for all this flag waving. We're not "heroes" we're doing our jobs
Day in day out, we're exposed to D&V or Norovirus, which is just as debilitating and equally as deadly if you have co-morbidities. In my specialism I have the added bonus of contracting HIV and hepatitus b and c. Plus the good old needle stick injury, which is a pain in the arse, if you are stupid enough to do it.
Before Corona Virus, the populace didn't want to do anything, especially the Gov't. They didn't give us a wage rise for five years. The other day some one said to me "Thank you for your sevice.' This is something you read all the time on you tube, when US Marine vets post about theirs or their Fathers military service, if they have to copy the USA, I wish they would reserve that platitude for our armed forces.
Social media has got a lot to answer for. For example, the critical care nurse who posted the other morning, she was whinging about just doing a forty eight hour shift in s hospital and couldn't get no food from Tescos. First of all, no one does a forty eight hour shift. She may have been in the building for that period, but it's against the law to work more than fourteen hours in one period in the NHS without a six hour rest break. The rationale for that law is, a nurse who is too tired to work, is a nurse who could make a deadly mistake.
Any sensible person would have gone to the local shop and bought their food, she must have known the supermarkets were under siege by idiots. Finally, if what she said was true, wouldn't any sensible person go straight home to bed?
But no, she chose to whine to FB or whatever social media platform, in the hope of it going viral and getting her fifteen minutes of fame, and of course the media lapped it up.
They never asked pertinent questions, similar to what I've said, no, her rhetoric did them fine, as it panders to the masses and it's fifteen minutes of air time covered for free. It appears to me that people can't do nothing theses days without it being acknowledged by everyone. Rant over.

Fantastic idea, count me in too..... I am to far away, so can someone clap for me!! It really moved me the first time I heard the people in Spain and all the Italians singing on balconies especially considering just how many people have died from this virus, and how long they have been on lockdown. Lets hope it will all be over soon.. Stay safe everyone
