I was recently visiting Ranville War Cemetery near Pegasus Bridge in CAEN in France with a couple of friends.

We had some Remembrance Crosses we wanted to place on random graves, especially Scousers from the 'South Lancashire Paras' as my Uncle had served with them in this conflict & fortunately had survived.

We not only found a Scouser but a 'Bootle Buck' no less.

So we laid a cross, said a prayer, saluted & said "Thank You"...……..so he is not forgotten.

His entry in the cemetery register reads; (enclose photo)

"Lance Corporal THOMAS WILLIAM MEDLICOTT, #3656200, (2/4th Bn The South Lancashire Redg) Bn. The Parachute Redg. A.A.C.
23rd June 1944 Age 25yrs old
Son of Samuel Thomas Medlicott & Mary Elizabeth Medlicott of BOOTLE Lancashire.
Husband of Mary Ann Medlicott."

Hope it's of some small comfort to any "Medlicotts" out there....!!

RIP Thomas.

Cheers

P

thanks for this Paul, my mother is a Medlicott so I've done some digging and found out that this is my Granddads cousin who I knew nothing about, so I'm going to try and find out more about him, many thanks

I don't recognise her name Roy, the Medlicotts that I know from my husbands side of the family are Sam and Alice Medlicott, mother and father of John, Gordon and Elizabeth, there was a Thomas Medlicott in the family as I have heard his name once or twice and John Medlicott called one of his sons Thomas, your mum may know if there is a connection, they came from Liverpool. :)

Thanks, I'll run those names past her and see if she remembers any of them, she has definitely mentioned a Sam

I had a friend named Kathleen Medlicott in the early 50s. Lost track of her many years ago. She lived in the Bank Rd area of Bootle . She was a lot of fun and went by the of "Megsie" If she's still around she would be in her 80s now.
