Going to put extracts of Wellies in the Summer with regards to football if he gives me permission my other mate Eddie and l played against him.

What a team that was Thrid picture they played hard great team remember all of them Tommy always had time to show me how to hit a ball him J and our Albie

Doing some research with regards to this picture.
next to Vernon's pools building Bootle team and over the road baseball team.
Bootle cricket ground well well by Bedford rd school Bootle played Everton in them days
Must have been a fantastic time if you had employment and played in them days
Jimmy Gee comes to mined and others.

Eddie Spicer was born in Garston, Liverpool on the 20th September 1922. A great footballer, he later captained Liverpool schoolboys and in 1939 he signed for Liverpool Football Club.
But he wasn't to make his club debut for another seven years. At the outbreak of the Second World War he joined the Royal Marines and later became an officer.
After the war, on the 30th January 1946, he finally made his debut for Liverpool FC. A tough tackling defender, he played over 168 games for the club. In 1953, Eddie Spicer suffered a terrible injury on the field - his leg was fractured in 19 places. His football career over, he was lucky to be able to walk again.
The club and its supporters provided a very generous testimonial game for Eddie Spicer who was very popular at Anfield. He went on to run a pub in North Wales and write for the local Daily Post.
Eddie Spicer, gallant gentleman, passed away on Christmas Day 2004.
During his wartime service, Eddie Spicer had one very strange encounter. As fighting raged in Normandy in 1944, a German soldier approached Eddie Spicer and surrendered. In perfect English, the German soldier said-
"Don't shoot, I'm a soccer international."
The German soldier went on to say that that he had played against several English sides including the Aston Villa team that had toured Germany in the late 1930s. The German soldier had even corresponded for a time with one of the Aston Villa players, Ernie Callaghan.
Eddie Spicer saw to it that the German soldier was given medical treatment and they parted 'the best of friends.'

Oh what l have missed talking to Jimmy Gee about them times at Liverpool
I look at the above picture and he was there
Jimmy Gee Bootle lad who played and was involved with the players.
I wish l could go back in time and talk to them this is history to me.
We need more Pictures and Stories of your playing days.
I for one never knew we had grounds in Hawthrone rd Bootle played Everton Baseball grounds Bootle Celtic
Must spend some time to talk to my mate Henry Bradley and send Ray a message all this could be lost.

It's obviously my age, but I'm struggling with the orientation of this fascinating photo...…..now if somebody would identify the bridges over canal in the bottom right hand corner & the one above also, then I'm sure "my little grey cells" (acknowledgements to Hercule Poirot here) will be able to process the rest.
