Quite right John, I used to work for Servis Washing Machines for ten years, in the building opposite The Clarence and situated on the other side of the large white building. All of the flagstones in my driveway were made in the concrete works in the foreground. I got them in exchange for repairing the blokes washing m/c, and he made them extra thick so as they would not break under the weight of the car. Nearly 35 years later they are still going strong.

Bill, the little stretch looking back from the bridge to the Clarence is i believe now named Bridge Street, don't really know when that was changed, i always knew it as Berry Street but i suppose once new buildings were erected and divided the street into two it would have been somewhat confusing to have kept the south side of it as Berry Street. JJC.

Obviously it is Seaforth, but i am intrigued by the location of the Crosby sign. JJC. (great pictures as per usual) Thank you.

John, it might have been before the boundary changes in England and Wales 01/04/1974.

John,Seaforth joined Crosby Municipal Borough in 1937, having previously been part of Waterloo with Seaforth urban district. The whole of Crosby became part of the new Metropolitan Borough of Sefton on 1 April 1974.

Bootle has such wonderful architecture, beautiful buildings and churches..such splendour!!
Fascinated by size of St Mary’s church, imagined it to be smaller, but see it held 1500, (almost as many as St James’s) Gt grandfather's funeral held there in 1887!

William Calderbank (gt grandfather) died at the age of thirty five, ex miner from Wigan, married Bootle girl, Sarah Ann Roberts, settled in Bootle and worked on the Liverpool docks!

Another one Joe. Is that by the Black Bull pub. Old railway station called Prescot Road.

Here's your station Ed, not Preston Road as you thought , but Warbreck. Last in use in 1960 where you could catch a train to Southport (Lord Street Station/Ribble Buses later)Station. Preston Road was what Rice Lane station was originally called until early 80's.

Bob, not sure the date is correct as the car registration XK began Jan 1922 until May 1922, so possibly a few years later , maybe mid 20's .

The first meeting of Bootle Borough Council, September 1967. I think that's Simon Mahon as the chairman and I know the lady face looking at us in the front (Vera Bray methinks) Can anyone else name any of them?

Crosby Lighthouse Burnt Down 1897.

Many thanks for this - my great great grandfather was keeper of that light and superintendent of the Formby lifeboat. He died on duty a few years before it was destroyed.

Joe, The car on the left is a Ford 100E Anglia/Prefect/Popular, not to be confused with earlier Ford Popular
or later Ford Anglia. The car in the middle looks like a Hillman Husky. The Liverpool Corporation bus on
route 16 is a Daimler, one of a batch of 50 from 1949/1950 with bodywork by Northern Counties of Wigan.
These Daimler buses and some of the AEC`s at that time were equipped with a pre-select gear change.
From the late 1940s, Liverpools tram system was being gradually run down, and it was easier to learn to
drive a "Pre-Select" type of gearchange, than a crash gearbox that were fitted to many buses and lorries.
Some tram drivers with many years of driving trams had never driven anything other than a tram, so it
was back to basics having to learn to drive and change gears and also steer a bus weighing about 9 tons.
