Bob was talking to a 'young' Billy Symes who asked if I had anything about his dad.

He was Hon. Sec. of Winifred Sports and is shown here on the team circa 1956.

Ex Army overcoats were all the rage to keep the weather out for supporters on Orrel Pleasure on Saturday afternoons in those days.

Note the footwear for the mud too. We never saw any grass at O.P

Judging by the bar, the pitches were never quite flat either,

I was made up the other day someone said now l have a picture of my granddad in the JOC everyone in my family talks about him playing :D :D

And to me, that is what it is all about history that could have been lost.

Big thanks to all the input from members and other people with regards to this post-Bootle JOC

So many photos of so many Bootle lads.

It is amazing how many actually moved on to pro, semi pro and even International. I often listen to present day players and managers, up to Premier League level, who have strong Merseyside accents. The JOC really was a hot bed of soccer and attracted many very talented boys.

I know a few from personal experience who progressed but wonder how many actually moved up from the JOC to earn money from their hobby and love of the game. There must be hundreds.

I was never good enough to even play for the school team which boasted names such as Ronnie Moran. I was a very late starter but in those days considered young when I signed for Liverpool at 20 years of age.

The best days by far of my football life were in the JOC. We were all pals who met up every Saturday and knew each other personally.

To eventually get paid for playing was wonderful but there was never the closeness of knowing all the team personally rather than playing with virtual strangers.
