Thanks Dan interesting particularly the 1911 W Foster one telegrams 'Swastika Liverpool' I would hazard a guess that was changed in later years

Cheers Dan,
Later it was acquired by Montague L Meyer which itself merged with International Timber to form Meyer International.( MI)
MI would be split into Panel Products and Timber. The Timber was sold off to a Management buyout but never prospered and was acquired by my employers Finnforest ( now Metsa)
The Panel Products Business did OK and still exists today as Meyer but is now part of the Hadleigh Group.
Meyer in its various forms was my largest customer , some great times with great people. :D Ken

Dan. Thanks. A great collection of adverts. They covered so much of my life as an electronic, chemical and mechanical engineer - even the chemistry of soaps and nylon (ENKA being the forerunner of Courtaulds, Aintree (levelled and redeveloped now) - we used to compete for the shifts on Grand National days - as one part of the plant looked out over the racecourse! I'm often reminded of how diverse and inspirational the dockside and industry was in the 60s when I grew up in Bootle Village. Walshy.

Hi Walshy,
I did a year in Courtaulds. The Finishing Department, I used to drive a Stenter ( I think )

Ken. Yes, we were spoiled, having the Regal cinema then Allisons theatre club on our doorstep in Bootle/Litherland. Batman on the Saturday matinee pictures as a kid then class cabaret acts, especially groups and comedians, as a late teenager. Walshy.

Dan, Great detail in some of those adverts, thanks. I still remember the colour of Meccano bits, how many holes were in them and how many nuts and bolts needed tightening. Lessons of a lifetime. My set was a 2nd hand bitsa one, from neighbours and Sharrets shop - excess parts and some missing - it made me work hard to build a 'lazy tongs hedge cutter' with scissors bolted to the end - completely overambitious! Walshy.

Dan,

More great ads. It felt like the 60s again - find a pair of flared kex then head down to the Wispa disco for the night. Walshy.

Ken, I was in the nylon production chemistry control lab. for part of my chemistry training at Courtaulds. We had excellent workmates; so many characters supporting so many families. Walshy.

This is from a book called "Cigarettes- Liverpool 5" about the BA on Vauxhall Road.

I'll put a link at the bottom of the post.

The "cpcca" in the link isn't Russian- it stands for The Cigarette Pack Collectors Club of Argentina.

You learn something every day, sometimes two things.

These four pages are about the BA football, rugby, cricket and baseball teams.
