Patricia are you going back to "Duck" this year? I am so disappointed as our usual crowd have booked to go back September. I cannot make it as we are off to Florida at the end of January for 2 months and then I have my daughters wedding in Italy in October. Hopefully we can get together 2018! Would prefer to go to Duck than Florida or Italy!! Your weather appears to have settled down as we have been concerned about the drive to St. Petes.
Have been meaning to ask you, did you manage to munch your way through all those Quality Street you bought for Christmas??????

Hi Elaine - Hope your New Year is going well. With regard to "Duck" this year we are
in a big "Family" discussion trying to get coordinated. It gets harder each year with
one grandchild now in regular employment and two others working temp jobs for the
summer, as to when and whether they can get the time off!
You certainly have one long drive to Florida even with overnight stays but if you are
passing anywhere near Newport News, be sure to let me know so that we can
arrange something.
With regard to the "Quality Street" by the time I gave each of our Girls a jar, it left
one for me and as of now, it hasn't been opened, Lew and I have been devouring the good
Brit boxes of chocolates I have received for Xmas from relatives across the pond! :D :D

Patricia, if I pass anywhere near your place I will pop in and help you out with the Quality Street! Just joking, as long as your weather remains calm, no snow or black ice the journey will not be too bad. Let's hope we can meet up in "Duck" in 2018, I just love the place!

Both you, Elaine and your Tom will be more than welcome, just let
me know and I will forward the details. We could also enjoy
playing "Liverpool Monopoly" while munching on the "Quality
Street!" together with a nice bottle of wine, of course! :D :D

Received this the other day.............

Three drunk guys entered a taxi,
The taxi driver knew they were drunk so he started
the engine and then turned it off again. Then said: "We have
reached your destination!"
The first guy gave him money and the second guy said: "Thank You!"
The third guy slapped the driver. The driver was shocked thinking
the third drunk knew what he had done but asked:"What was
that for?" the third guy replied: "Control your speed next time, you
nearly killed us!!"

I'll get my coat.......................

A photo I hope turns out of Ed's sister Eileen, hubby Ronnie, cousins Val & Mike, their daughter Rachel and Stephen who taught English in Japan and married a beautiful girl.
They all live on the same land in Hawarden, in separate houses! We have never been back to UK to see it. Eil & Ron came here many times also Rachel as a young lass. I love this pic!! Tina

Thanks Glen, I'll remember that next time we pass that way
BTW - ref your comment on another high-jacked thread; me too about "water aid". A few years ago we met a young man who was planning to spend his gap year helping to install a water tank through a Tear Fund project. I feel donating through that excellent charity means more money is spent on the actual project than on admin and advertising etc.

Tina - That was a lovely photo of your relatives enjoying their time together!

Thought I would introduce you to Janine's newest addition - she is called a
"Rag Doll Cat" named "Laura" and she acquired it by way of her step-
daughter. It truly is a lovely cat and has the brightest bluest eyes I have
ever seen................

I have been a member of the Bootle Forum now for over
eight years and I think you have an idea of who and what
I am. This is not bragging just true appreciation for what
I am so lucky to have been given.

I have no idea what Lew and I have done, but we have been
blessed with the most lovely, thoughtful, kind and considerate
girls ever.

It is my eldest daughter, Gaynor Alice's birthday to-day and
surprise, surprise, there was a knock on the door and a chap
standing there with a Fruit Display. The card stated it was from
Gaynor thanking us for being her parents!!

This is just one small incident that all three have shown us
over the years, sometimes banding together to plan birthday
and wedding anniversary parties for us, arranging and paying for
a cruise for us one year; buying plane fares, taking us with them
on various holidays to places we would never have otherwise
gone to.

I used to think maybe it was God's way of comforting me from
leaving my Family and homeland to make me realize that if
I hadn't, I would never have had these wonderful daughters.

We have indeed been blessed.

Awww Patricia,
What a lovely post, your girls obviously love you and Lew very much. You should also give yourselves a pat on the back because you have raised three lovely caring daughters. I know how they feel, I also had two lovely people I was lucky enough to call Mum & Dad and would love spoil them at every opportunity.

Elaine - Thank you so much for your lovely comment. I'm so glad you see
where I'm coming from. I was hoping my input would bring forth more of
the same from other very "Grateful Moms' & Dads' who have wonderful
children that are doing the same,
I just felt that they needed to be recognised for all that they do!

I know, Elaine, your parents must have been very appreciative for what you
did for them, as I know mine were. x

Dot - You taught me WELL!! :D Went into the Sun Room/Conservatory/
Solarium/Sun lounge :D to water the plants and couldn't believe my eyes,
another stalk growing on the Orchid Plant (3rd time, I had given up) and I do
believe another one on the way, lower down - what do you think?

Hi Patricia..your orchid is looking good..a good strong stem but I think
the other two shoots are new roots I have read somewhere they live of air as well..
Looking forward to seeing the blooms the roots are not pretty but that's how it grows.

Dorothy.

Ahhhh Thanks so much Dorothy for your reply. Had no idea
about the "Air" information thought it was too good to be
true that there were two more shoots popping up! :D :D
Whenever it "Blooms" I will take another photo in the
meantime I am counting the days/months for that to
happen!!

It is going to be in the 70's this weekend so my daffodils
that my youngest daughter, Jillian, planted over twenty years ago
while still in High School, are almost ready to bloom - I am looking
forward to that!!

When we first put in the "Lights" one of my daughters made the remark that
it looked like a "Flight Runway!!" :D :D

Flight runway ..ah ah :D
When the daffs come out it reminds me of what my daughter Carole did..
We had a neighbour a few doors away every year had a beautiful show of
daffs and one year Carole took the flowers off everyone leaving all stalks
leaves ...how embarrassing was that ..I had today go and apologise and
took a pathetic bunch too compensate   not a laughing matter

I think the roots growing outside the orchid are so unsightly but that's how
it grows but if all shrivelled up I nip them off

Ladies hope you don't mind my posting this as I normally like to post only good and positive things here but I was devastated by this article as a woman, mother and Grandmama truly if doubt if I could control myself if I got within a mile of the mother.

Such a sad thing Lily but almost as disturbing are the last 2 para's of the article; it is estimated that 91 per cent of the 173million Chinese adults that were believed to suffer mental problems never receive professional help.

Hi Teens my niece sent me that last night with the caption 'Will you get me one for my birthday'

Beej I have travelled all over with both my job and for holidays, in my job I saw many things particularly in Africa and Asia that made my blood boil in respect of native workers lives but always had to remain dumb as even questions were treated with suspicion. In many respects we are lucky to live where we both do as much as it may be maligned the National Health Service was and is a huge safety net for folks.

That was lovely of you niece Lily! She wouldn't really want one, we know why...
China doesn't seem to recognise mental illness, sees it as a weakness and after all, another baby, even a boy, is not always welcome. So very sad.

So true Teens :(

I think I am turning into my great Aunt!!!!!

Well I went shopping in Cairns yesterday, had a haircut and blow dry, looked at some clothes, did the grocery shop, and generally just ambled around. I ended up buying miniature bottles of perfume and for the oddest of reasons boxes of ladies hankies going out on special. My Great Aunt, Miss Elizabeth to most and Miss Lily to me was a maiden lady who never married and could be relied upon for a nice little treat every now and again and for her small but lovely presents. She always gave a box of hankies on my birthdays, when a child usually Mabel Lucie Atwell ones and often with half a yard of matching ribbon for my plaits. As I got older the ribbons went and the hankies become of the Lacy type, and at my marriage the something new was of all things a white lace Hanky. It just came into my head when I got home and looked at the boxes of hankies to recall this why on earth did I buy hankies when so many use tissues I really don't know. But they and the little bottles of perfume are off to the Cottage Hospital and will hopefully give some folks a little lift, cost very little but I am so glad they have given me some lovely memories to mull over last night.

Do you have any rellies memories like this????

Thanks Elaine a few years ago John and I stopped our donations to some of the charities we supported after reading just how little gets to the source and seeing the huge salaries paid to execs. So we try and do our bit within the community and no longer give cash donations unless we know most of it gets to the source, such as our rural fire brigade and the feed the homeless food van. Little gifts to the Cottage hospital are always welcome and gladly accepted as are similar donations of toiletry goods to shelters for abused women.

Sometimes postings on the computer can be a letdown and sometimes it can
really boost your morale. Today, it was the latter. I had posted a photo
of my eldest bro and his pupils on the Bootle & Sefton Forum and
asked if anybody remembered him.
This is a reply I received today which really "warms my heart" and I'm sure his immediate
Family when they read same:

Alan Bunn: He was my geography teacher at Bootle Grammer and he was without doubt one of the two
best teachers I ever had, he encouraged us to think for ourselves and not to blindly accept anything without question.

Patricia Richardson: Alan , Thank you so much for that comment it means a great deal to me and his Family. I had heard
verbally about his ability at teaching and I know I owe him a great deal growing up, he always had time to answer
any questions I had for him. We miss his expertise to this day!
