Questions:- Who owns this building? Who owns the land? Who gets the cash for the land? Which idiot ordered such a fine school building to be demolished?

Todays rumour heard was that it is going to be an Amazon. com warehouse. It would be nice to finally know what was to become of the land.

17th October. I went back to work after a week off and I was surprised by how fast the progress is.

The chairs in the above pic are in the previous picture from 5/10/12 so use those as a marker. It is where the sports hall stood.

They are halfway along the main corridor now.

I hope you all don't think I'm a little obsessed with this! It was my school though and since I work opposite it is easy to snap a few pics now and again :)

Only the Art and Cookery classrooms left! These mounds of earth are where the sports hall stood. Kind of hard to get your bearings there anymore.

Pure vandalism what a waste of a good building and a further breakup of the community.

It's taken 11 weeks to demolish and clear the site. A lot of memories were made in these buildings, some good, some bad! If any former pupils are interested, a facebook page has been set up called 'memories of St Wilfrids' A whole load of people have reconnected through it and have shared some great stories and pictures. This has been something I didn't want to just pass into dust. I hope in the future people can find these pics and remember and have a smile :)

I was told that it looks like work is going on at the St Wilfrids site. Does anyone know what's going on up there?

Donna, I went to St. wilfrids intil 1961.
Mr. Diggle was the Headmaster.

When I left 5 pupils were staying to do GCEs’.

It was built on a tip, as we kept cutting our knees when playing football, as there were only a few inches of soil.
That is why the playing fields were higher than the ground floor of the school.

Regards

John

quote="Donna_D"]I thought I'd take some pics of my old school as it is earmarked for demolition soon. I couldn't take many as I have a bad back at the mo and some I took didn't come out very well. I hope people can add to the collection x

here is the school from the Hawthorne Road end. The upper classrooms were English classes, the lower were the music rooms. The science and language block is in the background.

Image

I found this poignant. A tribute to a great school. When I was there some ladies were pinning their school ties to the area.

Image

What I did see today was lots of people mainly in their late twenties/thirties/ forties all walking around the grounds. there is no sign of demolition today. Just a lot of people taking perhaps a last stroll through their old playgrounds.[/quote]

Welcome to the forum, Toffees. They've put planning applications in to build 160 houses on the site.

Well I guess that’s progress.

I left when I was 15 in1961, it was a good Scholar with some good teachers.

One had to leave as he was over zealous with the cane.

I went there from St Robert Bellarmines.

Can still smell the Tannery that was opposite.
