"I lived at 2 Hawthorne Avenue Bootle at my grandmothers home in 1956 before migrating to Australia. It’s no longer listed as a Avenue only Hawthorne Road. Does anyone know if Hawthorne Avenue’s name has been changed or what has happened to it.

Thank you, Paddy Mahon Sydney Australia"

Found this on the Old maps of Liverpool Historic Liverpool site. It was posted in April 14 and no one has replied. I wonder if we could help him. I've looked in "Signposts" and it is not mentioned.

This is the site the original question was on

Nothing in the 1938 Directory.

The only Hawthorne Avenue coming up is in Halewood.

Looking at Jan's map reminds me that there were some prefabs around about where Hawthorne Ave is shown. As prefabs weren't built until after 1945 that could account for it's absence from the 1938 directory. Pretty sure they were all gone by the 70s.

Used to sit on the walls of those prefabs waiting for my girlfriend to come out of Balliol Road School
and walk her home to the prefabs in the South Park :) :)

:D

The map was sent to me by David Owens, it is dated 1972.

I think Hawthorne Ave is now Sandfield Road.
