Hiya Eddie, thats a smashing photo, was that taken in the juniors or seniors? I remember most of the lads, would love to know how everyone is doing. I,ve seen Michael O Hagan quite a few times and he,s ok.

Hi Sheelagh,
That trampoline pic was taken in the senior assembley hall of a night when we used to have teachers who actually worked out of school hours
The other pic was taken in the junior playground.

Hi Jimmy,
No I left St Joans in 1965. Michael O'Hagan was in our class. I have heard of a couple of the names you mentioned though.

Hiya Eddie, is the little fella on the left Neddy Hall ? and do you know whatever happened to Michael Duffy and Victor West after they passed the scholarship. When you think back our class must have been about 30 of us and there are so many more names coming back Magdelene White and Pauline Dunne, Jane Murphy, Linda McDonald, Roy Ferney, Peter Haughton. I remember me and Rita going on that trampoline at some kind of after school club, I used to love it, I woudn,t even be able to climb up on it now. I used to think the school hall was massive, it seems so tiny now when drive along Rimrose. Keep the memories coming back Eddie (well most of them)!!!

Hi Sheelagh,
Yes that is Neddy Hall. Not got a clue where the other lads went. I went to Bootle Grammar for two years but unfortunately I played too much football and not enough homework and they said I wasn't suited for an academic career so I was sent back to St Joans. After two years of doing Trig and algebra etc I ended up learning my 11 times table in the maths class I remembr Pauline and Magdelene they were always together if I rememberd right. Other names from our class were Donald McCullough, Michael O'Hagan, Tommy Mackie, Harry Henderson (I think)
Like you I wouldn't be able to climb up on the trampoline now
Other memories are........... No best not

Thanks Eddie, I have seen the photos before, I only recognise Michael O'Hagan because he lived in the next street and i was in a class with his younger brother Tony.I think Tony ended up in the band that Tom O'Connor set up in the early 70's.Were you at school the same time as my brother Tony then or my sister Dawn, my maiden name was Hines.
Susie p - nee Hines lived on Rimrose Road estate

Hi Susie I hope you don't think I was being ignorant I have only just seen your post. I was at St Joans from 1954 at the age of 5 until 1964 when I left. I was at Bootle Grammar for two years from 1960-62 then back to St Joans. Hi Richie good to hear from you mate, get your butt down to the Tavern (Used to be called the Queens) in Waterloo next Saturday mate

Well blow me down, doing some research for my wife when I came across this blast from the past. I was in this clas at St Joan’s and remember all the faces except the teacher. I was in St Joan’s until I left at 15 when I became an apprentice and my family moved out to Sefton. I have since worked around the world, mostly on oil rigs, and am currently retired living in Aberdeen. I still get down to Merseyside 3 or 4 times a year and occasionally driving around Bootle.
One of my main memories was playing amongst the rubble when the church burned down and getting a nail right through my foot.
It was a very sporty class and we were always kicking a ball or playing whatever game was in season.
How much smaller everything seems, since the demolition of the school and some of the streets it is sometimes hard to recognise.

I think the teacher in the trampoline photo is mr Gilbertson (Gilbo). If you look on the st Joan’s parish Facebook page there are a load of photos of various classes, teachers, priests and streets around st Joan’s.
