My parents Mr & Mrs Burman (also known as Mr & Mrs Singh )used to live at 38 Hertford Road 1965 - 1969

Does anyone remember my Dad's Ice Cream Van with the tiger on top

I've enlarged the photos of your dad's seriously cool ice cream van.

Third.

Whereabouts was his round?

What music did the van play?

What flavour ice creams did he have, (vanilla and banana, a must, as a minimum)?

Did he do sandwiches in a shell?

My Dad’s Ice Cream round was in the streets of Bootle , Marsh Lane , Netherton and Crosby .

My Dad also sold ice cream on Formby and
Freshfield Beach .

My Dad sold soft whippy ice cream and oyster shells were a favourite as well as ice cream sandwiches.

I used to live in 52 Hertford Road back in the 1980's and have many fond many memories of this street.

Hi, I new the Family who lived in Ash Street who sold ice cream, they lived next to the Mosey Family who live at number 11, I knew them as Brian and Jeet who had 3 daughters.
I think your Dad might have owned the house at one time

Well, you passed that test Ashok. :) :)

Never can be too careful - lots of imposters about.

Remember your dad's van - I've always lived in Netherton with various breaks for college and work.

Always oyster shells for me - cornets were for kids.

The first ice cream van I can remember coming round was George's (late 50s early 60s), who I think , had a shop on Stanley Road by the

Commodore.

Remember my mum ordering an ice cream gateau for Christmas from Mr Ed. Sure that was the name on the van.

The last two recollections may be based on an ice cream van conspiracy theory. :oops: :oops: :D

Hi Ashok.......This is a great post, I remember your father's Van too & he had a calming air about him & seem to make every ice cream sale especially for you.

As Dan prudently asked in a previous quote, what music did he play ?, as I'm sure this will stir the subconscious memory of an entire generation of 'Bucks' ?.

Or are we to assume due to the fact that he sold 'soft whippy ice cream' that he played "Greensleeves"....?

Apologies for late reply

Jeet and The Late Brian are my Older Sister and Brother .
They inherited our house at 9 Ash Street .
They have 4 daughters Rosie , Pinky , Lovely and Bubbly.

Brian who we affectionately called Boss was also an ice cream man.

Lovely family .

Jeet now lives in Ormskirk with Rosey.

The other 3 girls are married and have moved away .
My sisters and brothers are still in touch with Jeet .
I phone her too sometimes .

My Mum and Dad first moved to Bootle in 1956 and they lived at 9 Ash Street before they moved to Hertford Road.

Here is a photo of me with someone who i can not identify.
In those days all the neighbours were lovely and looked after ye.

I anyone knows her please kindly let me know.

Also i have posted a photo f my sisters and brothers Billy , Ashra and our Sheila with friends and some one holding me being the baby.

Both these photos were taken in Ash Street

Hi Ashok,
Great memories. Your Dad would park the iconic ice cream van on Hawthorne Road, at the top of the steps down to Grandma's bungalow, in the 60s.
The 'Happy Wanderer' would play. I would wait for Grandad's signal.
He would encourage me to get a cone - and an oyster shell for Grandma, following lunch on Sunday.

PS The name of Singh was unusual when I was a kid - then my best friend as a chemistry undergrad in Portsmouth was a Sikh, who now lives North of London.
