I worked in oils and fats for 30 years, on and off, and I had never heard of Brito until I saw the aerial photo, then started a bit of digging.
It's like the final line in Scorsese's Gangs of New York.

My Dad used to quote the first few verses of "the Boy stood on the burning deck" poem. I wonder if he knew it was by a Liverpool Poet. I bet he did. I didn't though. It was unlike him to miss out on telling me (and everyone else) what wonderful things came from Liverpool.

It was still going 6 months ago. I used to analyse their waste lube oil.
Tough business though. The only recycling industry that is a regular earner is for aluminium cans.
The Aylesford Newsprint company mentioned below, shut down in 2015 with the loss of 230 jobs.
UPM Kymmene (UK) Limited.

I started my Finnish career with UPM but in their mechanical side, Timber & Plywood etc.
The Aylesford Newsprint mill, just 15 miles from here, was a dog from start up. The Swedish owners SCA were trying to flog it before it opened. At the same time UK Paper ( also Finnish owned ) with mills just down the road in Sittinbourne was closing down due to the high cost of operations and difficult raw material supply.
Aylesford relied on recycled Paper and when it closed it caused big problems for surrounding Councils as they had no customer for their Paper collections.

Netherton 1842.
RC Chapel in the upper panel would be St Benet's with the Village Green nearby.
Moss Side Bridge on the left side of the third panel would be {Cookson's Bridge.} change that to the Holy Ghost Bridge.
Harrison's Lane would be Glover's Lane, with the Marian Square shops just above the NE of netherton.
Lots of ponds in the area.

Ah, Netherton Green,
We moved to our newly built dream house on Netherton Green in 1974.
Unfortunately only there 1 year as we moved South to Bucks in 1975 .
We still have friends on the Green and always visit or stay there if we’re up.

Dan. Fascinating photos. As an industrial chemist and engineering consultant, I often analysed samples of oil, water metals and wastes from factories, including the Shotton steelworks and paper mill. My Da spent his life as a Rigger on the docks but one of his passions was to visit Chester races or the dog tracks shown; on his return home, his face immediately told us if it had been a good night or not!
