The Launching of the Royal Iris 1950s
The Royal Iris ran the trials on the Skelmorlie Mile on the River Clyde on 24 April 1951. Arriving in the River Mersey on 28 April 1951, it was initially owned and operated by Wallasey Corporation and carried the borough coat of arms on the front of the superstructure. :? :)
Speed: 12 knots (22 km/h; 14 mph)
Length: 48.46 m (159 ft 0 in)
Launched: 8 December 1950Yard number: 1448

Very elegant ship, great pic Joe.
Just taking a closer look, she’s actually anchored and is that a swan midships? :lol: Probably some flotsam but from the small pic it looks like to me ( Specsavers is closed ) :lol: Ken

Can a ship just drop anchor anywhere in the Mersey?

Remember the 3 Queens , Phil they had to stand off at sometime during their visit.
The strength of current and tidal drop in the Mersey can restrict larger ships from coming alongside at certain times so they have to use their anchor.
