E of Canada at the rear so England or Britain in front, any ideas?
They were mixed passenger and freight but it looks like there was a hatch on the stern but was there one up front?
I saw those ships many times as a lad but can’t remember that detail. :roll:

Fire and the subsequent sinking of the Canadian Pacific liner the Empress of Canada on 25th January 1953 at her birth in Liverpool’s Gladstone dock. :( :(

I remember walking down to Gladstone Dock with my father to see the ship on fire. My dad said “That’s what you get playing with matches” Seaforth Arms pub ran out of beer along with lots of pubs nearby. Must have been one hell of a job righting her.

A retired master mariner we were cruising with was a cadet on board when that happened .
He went on to command his own ships and was very keen on frequent fire drills after that incident.
