It is possibly the Sydney Star or one of her sisters far left, with another BSL vessel outboard. :wink: :)

It refers to the colour of the funnel.white red white stripes...2 fatty snd 1 lean...graham.

Might be wrong but i think the first( scholar)first trip.and the last one craftsman my last trip with harrisons.going to have to a good think about thst time on my life.i am sure i have missed a ship out.got to dig out my seamans books out.thanks again for the pics.p.s.the merchant was a sister ship of the scholar.thry were bought from someone else, cant remember who but i know they renamed.harrisons best remembered for whisky galore.graham.

Great photo Keith i think the dock is the Princes Dock. The liver building in the background not yet completed in your photo.
That photo would've been taken around 1910/11. :wink:

The SYLVANIA at anchor in the Mersey. On the left is the Mersey Docks & Harbour Board's salvage tender VIGILANT. She replaced the BRITANNIC on the Liverpool to New York service from 1961.

Thanks for the memories Joe. I sailed for Ellerman and Pappayani out of Alexander docks when I left school. Do,t suppose you have any photos of them. One thing about the history of the docks is the shortage of photos of the shipping company signs that were placed on the walls of the sheds showing the company flag and ports serviced. They sure told a wonderful story to Bucks growing up in the area. Allen.
