Thank's for your comments Paul and Ken.
You're right about the size of the ship's these day's Ken also they made a load of dock's redundant. We're now exporting more tonnage than ever.

HMS Vanguard Joe the first ship I was ever drafted to in 1959 but she was at anchor and a living ship because Portsmouth RN Shore Barracks (HMS Drake)were overcrowded.Eight 15 inch guns and from what I was told she fired no shots in anger but did fire a broadside of all 8 guns ,put a 2 inch split in the quarter deck and moved about 10 feet sideways.I was on her when they filmed part of Sink the Bismark and was one of the german sailors who jumped over the side just before the Bismark sank.Got paid 15 bob every time I jumped and being as I only made 30 bob every 2 weeks as a junior stoker I hoped they would have to reshoot the scene many times...only twice though
Typical Navy though I did my basic training in Devon then drafted to Portsmouth then 3 months later drafted back to Devonport Barracks to wait for HMS Cavendish to come out of refit then Captain "D" 8th Destroyer Squadron, Far East Fleet Singapore for 20 months.

Thank's for that Paul, wink: The only info that I can find is, During the Second World War Eaglet became the flagship of Commander-in-Chief Western Approaches. In 1971, the sloop was scrapped and HMS Eaglet moved ashore to a new HQ at Prince's Dock. In 1993, Eaglet received the freedom of the city of Liverpool.
