Port at War ~ Liverpool 1939-1945 ~ Mersey Docks and Harbour Board
"Shipping in wartime monochrome, relieved in this picture by a touch of sun. A characteristic Liverpool dock scene"
It is possibly the Sydney Star or one of her sisters far left, with another BSL vessel outboard. :)

Great photo Keith i think the dock is the Princes Dock. The liver building in the background not yet completed in your photo.
That photo would've been taken around 1910/11.

These photos were taken by Joe Neary.

The SYLVANIA at anchor in the Mersey. On the left is the Mersey Docks & Harbour Board's salvage tender VIGILANT. She replaced the BRITANNIC on the Liverpool to New York service from 1961.

She is seen here arriving at Pier 92, New York.

Thanks for the memories Joe. I sailed for Ellerman and Pappayani out of Alexander docks when I left school. Do,t suppose you have any photos of them. One thing about the history of the docks is the shortage of photos of the shipping company signs that were placed on the walls of the sheds showing the company flag and ports serviced. They sure told a wonderful story to Bucks growing up in the area. Allen.
