Is it floating, Bob? What was it used for? I've never seen anything like it .

I have seen it on the Canal at Bootle and Litherland area scooping up rubbish up and putting it in a barge.

Did the Caddik family also operate the Bootle Bell barge on the canal?
I seem to remember seeing it, so many years ago.

Yes I do remember it. I went to St Monica's with one of the Caddick boys . I attended St. Monica's from about 1945 to 1955 then Bootle Tech for a couple of years.
Lived in prefab on Park St until 1957 then came to Canada. I still have very good memories of my days in Bootle.

Peter,

Could that have been Francis aka Frank born 1936, or Peter born 1943; there were seven brothers and sisters. I know the youngest, Bobby.

Thanks for the update Glenys.
It was probably Peter since his birthyear is closest to mine, 1941. Frank would have been too old to be at school with me (you would think I would remember Peter since we have the same name but I guess my memory is not what It used to be).
I do have some fond memories of my growing up in Bootle though. They were hard times but we didn't seem to mind.

Peter C,

I have now found out that Francis (Frank) ; he is now living in Southport. His brother Peter died some years ago. Will try and find out more for you.

That's okay Glenys, I don't need for you to check any further. It was a very long time ago and I have not made any attempt to keep in contact with anyone there.
I lived in the prefab at 21 Park Street from 1947 to 1957 then I moved to Canada.. I used to walk "all the way " to St. Monica's at the fever hospital site. It seemed like such a long walk at the time. I have only been back for a visit twice since then. I do find this site very interesting though and I enjoy reading all about all things Bootle. I used to kayak on the canal from the Stanley Road area and I would pass the Bootle Belle on my journey. I don't remember seeing that Water Witch though and I'm sure I would remember if I did see it.
Thanks Glenys,
Take care.
