My wife and I moved to the Nantwich area a few years ago, we were in an antique shop the other day, and hanging on the wall was a framed certificate for the Bootle May Day Demonstration dated 6th June 1925, this had been awarded to a W.H. Pickavance ( Liverpool Corp ) in the parade of Cart horses and turnouts, being Bootle born and bred I could not leave it hanging on the wall, the princely sum of £20. was handed over, I have since restored the frame, the certificate now takes pride of place on the conservatory wall.

I bought a copy of Peter Woolley's book " Bootle and Orrell " several years ago, the book shows photographs of the May Day parades and the cart horses, I was saddened to see that Peter Woolley had died, I knew him from my time as a Police Officer in Bootle.

I will have to do a bit of digging to see if I can put a face to the name of the certificate winner.
