St John's School, between St John's Road and Brasenose Road in Bootle, suffered a direct hit in October 1940, during World War II. The school could not continue and many of the children were evacuated to mid-Wales and the Border Counties.

Some fabulous old photographs here, Joe :)
The picture of Mersey View, hardly changed, shops now offices, Blackledges, now Hot Yoga, Post Office, now Twentymans Barbers..other than that, just the same :D
Picture of corner house (sign in garden) “Ladies Guild” told by an old neighbour that it was once an agency for female domestic servants..it’s now a family home, lovely old house, retains all the original features!!

South Road picture, love it..the Alex, wouldn’t go in it now, but once a lovely pub :)
Wish we still had Irwins, Pegrimms, Liggetts, Costigan's, Home and Colonial, and the old style Co-Op 102471
(How I still remember the divi number, I will never know :D )

Thanks Joe :)

Hi Henry, I can see the outside of it, and the inside where we hung up our coats, and frozen bottles of milk defrosting, I would love to see it again, you'd think there would be photos of it somewhere.

I was born in 48 and went to St. Winnies. I remember the playground in the front, and the rought iron railings at the front. I remember the fire brigade having to grease a kids head, he had got it stuck between the railings, it happened quite often , we were told.
