noise , pollution,but are playground , altcar ,and alt road
as you know its landscaped now and a footy pitch
been down a few times with the grandkids for a photo outside no 5
i have shown that photo to the current owners and they cant beleave the melly was there
it was prefabs before the nursery

Hiya Bob. Yeah remember the footy games by Theos quite well. Plus cricket and tennis down there.

Also remember the original nursery getting set fire to and the REMY going up in smoke around the same time. I had my suspicions then but couldn't find out who or why.

The Melly footy pitch was always getting used especially on Sunday afternoon with a 30 a side kick about (Mack the Admin will remember these as well) before the grass was all landscaped.

The tarmac sometimes had holes in and you had plastic bags with god knows what in covered by bricks and the tarmac rather than carting the debris away.

Photo’s of Orrell Park Station with a train to Liverpool in the first photo.

Hi Chaps, The diesel locomotive in Joes picture of Orrell Park Station is an "English Electric" Class 40,
one of about 200 built from 1958, and were seen throughout most parts of the UK.
The "Deltic" diesels, of which there were only 22 of them, belonged to the Eastern Region of British Railways
and were mainly used on the East Coast Main Line between London, Kings Cross and Edinburgh.
The prototype Deltic locomotive which was also built by English Electric. Many of its component parts came
from English Electric factories here in the North West, the English Electric factory on the East Lancashire Road,
the English Electric factory at Strand Road, Preston, and I believe the prototype was assembled at the Locomotive
factory of English Electric/Vulcan foundry at Newton Le Willows, near Haydock.

When the "Prototype " Deltic first came out it was used mainly on Euston to Liverpool and Euston to Glasgow trains , On our Wedding day 3-3-58 the prototype loco headed our train 2-10 pm Lime St to London---I believe it is at Shildon Railway museum now ..

I was one of 12 we were all the same hard but great memories I We should jot down All our yesterdays I remember trying to jump off the roof at solly road school with a army parachute not a big one supply type the wind blew the parachute out me hands our len (eldest brother ) found out out ripped up the parachute

330 Hawthorne Road at junction of Waterworks Street ' Waterworks Street Post Office'
Undated but possibly late 1880/90's or early 1900's. In the distance, beyond right hand row of houses ,can be seen a tall building which would have been the Albion Hotel , corner of Earl Road and Hawthorne Road .

Does anyone remember The Cottage Pub, on Great Howard, it was run by a lady from Bootle in the 1980s.

The woman who had the cottage was pub was Cathy duff she had two giants for sons

My Dad and his brothers used to drink there and my Mum helped out for a little while when they were short staffed, I remember Kathy and her giant of a husband John, in later years Kathy did a lot for SSAFA.

My dads name is jimmy Riley hes 92 and lived in marsh lane and stayed in Borland street with his uncle Charlie and sandy Gant till they were bombed out and moved to Huyton after being evacuated to Martin's camp in Windsor. Anyone know the Gants. Sandy was a prisoner on the Graff spee and Altmark after being torpedoed on the Tairoa,he was well known in "toulans or the stadium"

Their brother Billy Gant was my great grandad. I remember as a young kid him taking me round to the house on Ballantyne Grove, I think it was Charlie that lived there.

I never knew Sandy was a prisoner on the Graff Spee

Great Photo of Violet Road on left opposite Match Factory our Family lived at number 12 from 1901 to 1941 you can just make out the Linacre Mission.

Great Photo of Litherland and Ford also can see Ford Cemetery top right, Sterrix Lane and the House on Gorsey Lane at the bottom of Randall Drive were our House was built in 1953 and Family lived there till 2013
You can make out The Tailors Arms Cooksons and opposite the pond and trees in the corn field where we played opposite the Canal piggeries.
You can see also Bluebell Wood where we played before they built the Queen of Peace Church .
