Hello Lynne,
It always fascinated me from child passing Stanley Hospital, It Was a biblical extract "I was sick and Ye visited Me "Mathew-25-31-46--Google it ! I didn't know what it was exactly until the other day when the photograph of the Hospital came on this site and I wondered how many people might remember, passing often on the bus during summer the ward windows were open and you could see patients sitting up in bed catching a bit of fresh air--I used to wave to them and they would wave back as we passed.

Thanks for the info about the entrance to Stanley Hospital. I once had to walk there with my mum on Christmas Day because I had put a piece of pebble dash in my ear and it wouldn't come out. They used a vacuum cleaner type thing to get it out.
Where was Alexander Church?? Thanks

Bob,
I have just had cataract removed from right eye, 9 days ago............boy what a difference, everything is sharper, colours brighter - the left eye has a cataract but they won't do it yet until it is more advanced.
I was terrified about having this op, but I worried needlessly, it was pain free, as the eye is completely anaesthetised with drops, could just about feel gentle touching around my eye. Had a choice of places to have it done, chose earliest date at private clinic in Birkdale, all done on NHS. My surgeon was a lady consultant who also works at Aintree Hospital.
Hope you get a date soon Bob.

Keith, I had my op at Drayton House, Birkdale; only waited 5/6 weeks, gave me date just before Christmas which I declined as I was having the 'tribe' here; within days I received a letter with new date. Very efficient.

Great news Bob-Getting cataracts done is no problem -big difference -My biggest problem last year I had R Hip replaced -the anaesthetic took ages to wear off -now left one is hurting but I'm going to put up with it Anyway I'm glad WE are all still above ground.

Good to see earlier posts about St. Alexanders. I went to infants and juniors at St. Alex and served mass there as an altar boy.
St. Alexanders church was on St. John's Road - directly opposite Ceres Street (and its canal bridge). After rebuilding, the new church opened in july 1957. The church and school are now both gone but the priest's house still stands and is used as office space.

Bob and Joe,
Re your cataracts, I would say, go back to your opticians and tell them how your daily life is affected by your cataracts, and as Keith says, you have a right on the NHS to choose from quite a few places to go to for this op.

I second that Glenys--nobody should have to wait a long time or be told You don't need the operation---consult another doctor----I used to have glass's to read and drive the car--but great now after my op.
cheers

Hiya Glenys, thanks for your advice. I don’t need to see my optician for another two years. I’ll tell you how it went when I bump into him next.
Cheers Joe.
