75 years ago today 21st December 1940 - Fate created this event that eventually resulted in the creation of ME !

Mum aged 15 years and her Widowed Mother were blitzed out of their Home in 5 Malcolm Grove off Marsh Street by Kirkdale Station
just 3 days before Xmas Day 1940 and were amongst the 143 personnel relocated to Fazakerley temporarily.

They eventually were billeted with a Family in Spooner Ave, Litherland, off Orrell Road,
Widowed Grandma eventually remarried a Widower in that area,
in July 1943 and Mum and her moved to Gardner Ave. Orrell ,
Mum because of this, used to catch the Number 52 Bus into Town and thereby met her future Husband (My Dad) at the Bus Stop.
In 1948 they married after he returned from War Service in India,

I came along in October 1949 - So I've forgiven the Germans !

Instead of being named after my Father as the first son,
Mum insisted I be named after her Hollywood Heart throb Alan Ladd.

Had I been born a few years later, after he made that famous Hollywood Western "Shane"

I could have been called " Shane" instead of Alan

" Not a lot people know that ! "

The Strange Saga as to how I came across this Air Raid Report by accident is as follows:-

In 1977 I move from Liverpool to Brecon, South Wales with my job.

In about 1997 a Book Club Rep leaves a pile of Books at the Office Reception for the Staff to order books from the selection he left in time for Xmas.
One was an big Imperial War Museum Book on Life During World War Two. As well of loads of glossy photos, many pages had pouches containing examples of a Ration Book, Identity Card, etc and this typed Air Raid Wardens Report.
It names No City, but as I read it 150 miles from Liverpool I recognised the Street names in the report.
My Mum's Sister Florence Close nee Robinson formerly of Malcolm Grove,, had given birth to her first son Donald in October 1935 at 24 Marsh Street
where the Incident Post had been set up,
I immediately knew that this was a Report of the night that Fate set in motion a chain of events, that led to my birth.
How weird is that ? Small world hey ?

Hi Alan,

I can relate to your story, on 21st. Dec 1940 which was my 5th birthday Our house on Aintree Road was bombed and our Xmas was spent in and out of shelter. The house was rebuilt and we were able to return years later from Rogers Ave .

Merry Xmas
Rose
