Hi there,
Has anyone got any photos of Haddock Street please? I'm researching my mum's family
( Atherton & Cubbin). That's where they lived. Thank you.

My Mum's Mother Margaret Ann Robinson nee McKay was born at 46 Haddock Street on 21/02/1892
For 10 years we always took our Vauxhall cars into Lookers for Servicing using the Haddock Street entrance, imagine my amazement when I only recently discovered where she was born which was not known at that time.
Haddock Street must have been unpaved/unadopted as it does not really appear in the Gores Street Directories much.
What period did the Atherton & Cubbins live there ?
What were the Christian Names of the Head of Households?
At Library now, Quick glance of 1910 Gores shows Edward Atherton at 85 Rosalind St
Thomas Atherton at 15 Smollett St
Thomas Atherton at 53 Sidney Rd
William Atherton at 40 Rosalind St ( Rosalind St is other side the Canal from Haddock St )
Robert Cubbins at 45 Merton Rd
Mrs Ellen Cubbins at 45 Merton Rd
Richard Cubbins at 44 Waterworks St
Robert Cubbins at 157 Gt Mersey St
Gores 1900 shows James Cubbin at 124 Gt Howard St
Margaret Cubbin at 40 Bedford Rd

Hi Maggie I found the following for 46 Haddock street in 1891

•Note:
1891 in 46 Haddock Street, Kirkdale

Hi Lily,
No connection as far as I know, between McKay's and Athertons and Cubbins,
Maggie didn't state what number her relatives lived at in Haddock St.
I just saw Post and threw in comment that I found out that my Granma Mc Kay was born there at number 46
Though it is hard to believe that there were so many Numbers in that small Street up to the Canal.
The Gores for some reason for 1891 & 1901 & 1911 only show one or two houses in that street ?
Anyway I hope info found helps Maggie.

Jan posted these photos February 2011 on a Kirkdale/Bootle thread.
The roads going left to right are Derby Road, Forth Street, Brasenose Road and St John's Road.
The canal runs between Brasenose and St John's Roads.
Haddock Street is in the centre of the photo running at 45 degrees running into Forth Street.
You can make out the bridge, crossing the canal, taking you into Ceres Street.
St Alex church and school are just visible on the upper right edge of the photo.
A labelled copy of the photo below.
The cellar you fell into may have belonged to Black Jacks, which was just past the Ceres Street bridge.
