Think I was getting my Pine Grove and Park Groves muddled?!

Is that Hawthorne Rd that goes up diagonally from bottom right Chimney ?
Is Mill Lane in the Photo ?

Alamo,

I think the one you mention (chimney) may be Brookhill with Hawthorne only just appearing in the bottom left corner?

The pic shows Brookhill Rd going diagonally. The triangle bit is the Park that was at Recreation St. That small section of road, after where it meets Waterworks St is still Brookhill road. Known as Little Brookhill Rd. With Well Lane Gardens nearby. Sadly Mill Lane not on the shot (we lived there and would have loved to see it :( ) Found this fascinating, seeing the area from above - the toffee works, Kent, Essex, Devon etc streets.

Hi Bob,

Thanks for posting the picture of Park Place and Park Street. I'm not sure when that was taken but, except for the cars on the road, nothing has changed since I left for Canada in 1957. I lived in the prefab just to the left of the picture, number 21 across the road from Scotts and Davies (24 & 26). I also knew Tommy Galvin who lived on Park Place. My mother was raised on Mill Lane before to the war and I remember seeing those cottages which I believe were built to house the lead factory workers?
I have lots of fond memories of growing up in that neighbourhood.
Thanks again for the pics. Any others of that era would be greatly appreciated.

Cags293 wrote:Hi Everyone. Re Mill Lane: we lived at 15. Next door to Mrs Blackburn (mid 60's until compulsory purchase in 1972). Our nan also lived here at no7. I have some pictures of my uncle Roy outside no 9 with my grandad. The cottages were rendered when we were there and we had privets and a little fence at the front (I don't recall any of the fronts being in a poor state of repair like in this photo) The shot is taken looking toward 'little' Brookhill Rd with the back of Park Street barracks on the left. My mum's friends Sisters Barbara and Lyn Hunter lived in Well Lane Gdns and my godmother Violet Lane lived in Recreation St.

Voters List Part 2 1970 Crosby Library earlier today

Image

My Great Grandmother Sarah Green lived at 13 Mill Lane from about 1910 till her Death in 1931 she took in lodgers in 1926 following the death of her second husband in late 1926
The 1930 Voters List shows she took in 2 new lodgers Robert Blackburn and his wife Emily Grey Blackburn
The Blackburn's seem to have stayed on at 13 Mill Lane after Sarah's Death in 1931
So Emily Blackburn was there at number 13 from 1930 till into the 1970's

Thank you so much for this! The Graham's are my parents (sadly my mum passed away 6 years ago). The Lake's, my nan & Grandad. Made my day . . . :D

Ps. Also settled a query from my memory: The houses to the left of us in my head never included the one on a slight angle? This voters list shows no occupant. So more convinced than ever, that particular house gone (removed / bombed?) when we were there 64/65? To 1972.

CAGS, that's a super photo of Stanley Road, Park Street etc. I am sure I have identified Garden Lane, Back Garden Lane and Elizabeth Street. If that is the case, I can even see my old bedroom window!!! :D
Lived in Garden Lane Bootle then moved to Netherton, where my mum still lives.
