Mill Lane is off Hawthorne Road - next left after Park Street as you travel away from town (although a bit of it, not the bit in this pic, goes right as well - as far as Gloucester Road).
Born and raised in Romeo Street, later Lambeth Walk, Jersey Close, Garden Place, Hawthorne Rd, Gonville Rd now Netherton

Bob
I don't think that's a little girl - just the way the washing is hanging???
You can see the shadow of buildings from the left side of the street (possibly the gable end of the proprty on Hawthorne??) but haven't a clue about the chimney.

Sure Billy and Ann Shacklady lived in 1 Mill Lane. That would be where the two people are outside. Jeez, memories coming flooding back now.

Thanks Bobhamo
It was my grandparents who lived at that address.
Ive googled Luke Hemer as Id never heard his name before and can see the details of him being a shipwright, he must have been pretty well known in the Bootle area to have had a street named after him.
Thanks again for that information

Still cant see a girl or anybody at the window! Think you are having us on Bob, it reminds me of when you were in bed as a child and could make out faces and the like in the wallpaper, frightened the life out of me sometimes!! Thanks for enlarging the photo Joe but didn't help me! Bob, if you are at the Christmas do, we will have to swop glasses and maybe I can see what you see!!!

hi gang, the cottages where still standing when I was young, the shadow is the back entrance to the barrack's of the 40-41st tank regiment. the lady standing outside the second house was a distant relation to my grand-mother. as a matter of interest I remember seeing Montgomery riding on top of a tank traveling up park street around 1948 regards billy..

i can remember the barracks
if photos put on the site bring enjoyment to everyone
i will try to put them on, no good just gathering dust then lost for ever,
if in future years any of mine are free to use

The row of cottages where the little girl is,
the back of them led onto the bank and the Barracks,
and into Dorset street,
the cottage was occupied by the Kerwin family,
at the bottom of the other row of terraced houses
was Pawsons dairy and the Lead works in little Brookhill road.
At the end of the cottages there was a jigger that we could just squeeze
through that lead to a space at the back of the cottages on the bank,
with another jigger that was in between the houses in Dorset street and Little Brookhill that led to another jigger
and the back of the houses in Waterworks Street..
Billy gooner they bring back memories, for me
