Thanks to Simon Ryan MFRS .
Robin, that man on the left of my grandfather Billy Monaghan yes, great that you recognised him. Did your dad work with him? Maybe my mum will remember him ?robinroyle wrote: ↑Tue Oct 06, 2015 11:00 am Hi Frank (and Joe Mackenzie and all the other volunteers).
A couple of things from my latest wander through this thread.
1) Gladstone dock 1966, is the young fireman on the left the ever-immaculate Billy Monaghan? Maybe Mick Barton could confirm ?
2) Seeing the photograph of Cecil Monk's funeral brought back memories of my dad's Fire Service funeral, which made our family very proud in the terrible circumstances of his sudden death.
Keep on doing what you're doing!
Best wishes from Poland,
Robin

Thanks Bri, yes my grandmother Theresa worked there too. They lived just behind Buckley Hill at the time. Thanks for replying!Bri wrote: ↑Fri Jan 03, 2020 11:59 pm Monaghanj, I worked at Buckley Hill fire station in Netherton for 18 years from 1988, the divisional headquarters were situated in the offices above the station. Your grandad was a senior fire prevention officer based at Buckley Hill at that time, I didn’t have a lot to do with that department so I wasn’t familiar with him although he seemed a nice man. I think your nan, Theresa, also worked there at some time.
On the dock fire photograph the tall firefighter standing next to your grandad is Neil Knappet another ex Bootle and Merseyside stalwart.

This carried a Merryweather alumninium 50ft escape , compared to Liverpool FB 's 50ft escape this was light in weight , this fire engine was on the run until the late 1970's .
A Liverpool Pump Escape from the same era , their 50 ft escape was called the Liverpool Escape and was made of wood in their own workshop , solid as a rock , it was like a staircase . Photo slightly distorted .
