Think I’ve mentioned elsewhere, my Wife’s late Mother was the Cousin of Lady Bickett who was married to Sir Alexander the owner of the tug company.
Since posting last time I’ve learned that Lady B assisted my In-laws with the purchase of their house in School Lane, Litherland. Their first house in Roxburgh Street was flattened in the bombing so they’d moved to Wigan and returned to Merseyside in late 1949. Ken

First Report of the Library and Museum Committee of the Borough of Liverpool dated October 26 1853.
The library was opened October 18 1852.
The museum was opened March 8 1853.
Initially both library and museum were housed in Duke Street. The final page of the report refers to the acquisition of the site on Shaw's Brow for the new buildings.
Favourite line in the report, "...the love of reading in any form must tend to counteract the propensity to low and degrading pursuits..."
Jane Austen couldn't have put it any better, dear reader.
Regards
Dan

Excerpts from a paper presented by GF Lyster in the Minutes of the Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers on the evenings of 21 & 28 January 1890.
The full paper is 113 pages, so I'll try to concentrate on the North end docks work.
More to follow.

It’s great stuff Dan, just be wary of information overload.
It’s a lot to take in, maybe leave a day or so gap between new posts to give us time to digest most recent.
Don’t get me wrong I welcome your very informative contributions, I just find them a lot to absorb. Ken
Just my opinion Folks
