Hi All,

I'm still trying to trace my Grand Aunt, Elizabeth Ann Evans, who lived at 4 Glynne St.
The last record I can find is the 39 register where she was single and living with her mother.
Her mother died in 1941 and I can't find Elizabeth in any marriage or death records.
She was born 1894 so would have been around 45 at this stage, possibly married?
The only option I can see is to try and find electoral registers from 1939 onwards, but I can't see any that cover Glynne St.

Can anyone point me in the right direction  .
I am on Ancestry if that helps or is there a better source to look at on-line?

Thanks in advance,
Keith

Hi Bob,
Once again the Bootle forum comes up trumps!

Now I know it's unlikely she married as she was 74 in 1968, I can look for a death certificate probably up to 1990.

Thanks also for the photos, it's how imagined the street to be, do you know when it was demolished?
Would any of those photos include 17 Glynne St, which is where my other Grand Aunt lived, Mary Lily McNicholas and her husband John.

Thanks Bob,
I have most of the info I can find on the Evans family.
Great Grandparents came over for Monaghan, and I can trace them through 44 Bostock St, 97 Berry St, 28 Delaware St.
Some went to Ken St Litherland and some to Glynne St.
The Glynne St girls both worked at Bryant & May.
My Grandfather was the only one to go traveling to, Warrington and ending up in Manchester, which is where I am from.
The only war casualty was my Grand Uncle Joseph, who died in Belgium 1917, third battle of Ypres, and his name is on the Crosby war memorial.
The rest of the family remained in the Liverpool area and most buried in Ford cemetary.

The last remaining brick is Elizabeth, but you have provided useful information.
Many thanks again,
Keith

Great info and pics Bob as usual.

Keith,

The electoral registers for Bootle are at Crosby library, you could phone or email them and ask if they would do a look-up of them for you, if you explain to them that you don't live locally they may help you, they are usually fairly good at helping.

Hi Jan and Bob,

Thanks for those contact details.

I realised last night I made a schoolboy error!

Elizabeth Ann's birthday on the 1939 is listed as 28 Jan 1894, but I looked at the Gov GRO records and her birth was in the first quater of 1893.
Her mothers maiden name is listed as CONLEY instead of Connolly, but assume this is the correct record, I have ordered a copy to get the correct date.
Then I can hopefully narrow her death record down.

All the best,
Keith

Keith,

I found the Evans family in census records and it does have Elizabeth's birth year as 1893.

Now this is a long shot I know but I found this death registration.

Name: Elizabeth Ann Evans
Death Age: 77
Birth Date: 12 Feb 1893
Registration Date: Jan 1971
[Feb 1971]
[Mar 1971]
Registration Quarter: Jan-Feb-Mar
Registration District: Bootle
Inferred County: Lancashire
Volume: 10b
Page: 1999

I have tried to find a possible baptism, but could only find her brother Joseph's baptism.

Hi Jan,

Thanks for looking to see if you could make sense of Elizabeth.

I suspect you may be correct in the death certificate, but we will know for certain next Monday when the birth certificate arrives.

I have looked for a burial record under Catholic burials but can't find anything relevant which is a bit frustrating.

On Baptism records out of 10 children I can only find 3 records.

Will let you know if our suspicions are correct when the cert arrives.

All the best,
Keith

Hi Keith,

I noticed from the baptisms found that the churches were either St Winifride or St James. The registers of baptisms for St Winifride are only available on microfilm from 1895, I am not sure when St James's start from. I am guessing that other baptisms may have taken place at St Alexander's but unfortunately all their parish records were destroyed when the church was bombed in WW2.

Let's hope the birth cert for Elizabeth can help with a possible death registration.

Hi Keith,

I found this in the Liverpool Echo 4th Feb 1971 (on the findmypast newspaper archives).

So this confirms that Elizabeth death registration above is the right one.

Hi Jan,
Excellent sleuthing work in finding that.
Now knowing she was buried in Bootle and not Ford with the rest of the family, I found the Bootle Cemetary records and an inscription on Roots Web.

7745 McNICHOLAS, EVANS, TRAVERS. (R.C.2.Row.16.)

Small upright black granite, straight top, square shoulders, one raised. Sacred heart of Jesus / have mercy on the soul of / John McNICHOLAS, / beloved husband of Mary, / died 20th Sept. 1958, aged 65 years. / Also Elizabeth Ann EVANS, / dear sister-in-law of the above, / died 2nd Feb. 1971, aged 77 years. / Also Mary, beloved wife of John, / died 5th May 1978, aged 82 years. / Also daughter of the above / Winifred Mary TRAVERS / much loved wife of Robert / and mother of John / died May 22nd 1989, aged 59 years. / You will always be my Win / Rest in peace

Which also led to where her Sister, Mary, husband John and their Daughter Winifred are buried.
Three birds with one stone.

Thank you for all your hard work again Jan, (and Bob).

All the best until my next query!
