Fairhurst Family Garfield St in 1942

Hello
Looking for info about my paternal grandmother, a Doris Fairhurst nee Marshall. She married a Charles Fairhurst of 10 Garfield Street in 1942. I have their marriage cert which has her address as 4 Garfield Street which in the 1939 register has a Williams family living there and one of those residents is a witness to the marriage. But that is all I know about Doris, wondering if anyone might have info about where she came from as I have found no history of a Doris Marshall living the area in 1939 register, she must have come in from outside area but have drawn a blank doing her side of the family tree. Charles and Doris moved to the Yorkshire area after the war if that jogs a memory.

HiThere

Thanks for that, I missed those Marshalls at 39 but after checking the 1911 census they appear to be too old to be parents of Doris as she was not born until 1921. I'll keep digging

I just checked the 1939 register and the Marshalls are gone so the mystery deepens. I have a feeling she may have lied about her age or an error on marriage certificate as I have lead on a Doris Marshall born in 1922 which some of the facts match what i know. Thanks to all for the answers.

In the course of my Ancestry Research in Recent Years I have been Very Surprised to find that Dates of Birth shown on the 1939 Register are not correct in many of my Relatives Records.
I have come to conclude not to take dates of birth in the Register as Gospel anymore.
It was not completed by the Householder but rather a visiting Enumerator who may have misheard or miss transcribed or the person lied about their age or genuinely didn't know the exact date.
Use it as a guide with a pinch of salt.
Even Marriage Certificates don't give the Correct Age necessarily,
I`m finding people could what ever age they chose and not to view the past with 21st Century accuracy eyes.
Be flexible.
Remember Records in the Past are not a True reflection of what happened and when,
Rather they are a Record of What People Said Happened.
I have 4 Relatives with Birth Certificates showing their Birth Dates up to 2 months
After they had been Baptized previously by the Priest.

Hi Lynn,

On the marriage cert does it name Doris's father and his occupation?

I have found this

Name:
Doris Fairhurst
Death Age:
54
Birth Date:
27 Apr 1922
Registration Date:
Apr 1976
[May 1976]
[Jun 1976]
Registration Quarter:
Apr-May-Jun
Registration district:
Barnsley
Inferred County:
South Yorkshire
Volume:
3
Page:
0029

There are a few Doris Marshall birth registrations in the Yorkshire area 1922

Perhaps if we have a father's name that might help

Jan

Firstly sorry to everyone but not sure where it came from that my name is Lyn on here it is actually Mark.

Yes Jan I have found that Doris also and tend to believe that is her as they went back to Yorkshire straight after the war and stayed there. Her father was Philip Marshall occupation Police Guard. I thought it strange that no Marshalls were mentioned as witnesses on the marriage cert so maybe she moved to Bootle during the war or something.

I wonder where Doris and her Mum are in 1939. I found them living together in 1945 in Dearne Thurnscoe with a Hilda Marshall
