Hi everyone, this is my first post on this board. Currently researching my family tree. I have already done quite a bit so looking to find some other people who are maybe researching the same family to swap information. The shields family (some of which are registered as shiels) were from bootle (college view, johnstone street, captains lane, queens road, Sidney street) and were quite a large family (approx 12 of them - John, Dom (my grandfather), Patrick, Catherine, mary, jimmy, maggie, aggie, ronnie, mick, betty to name a few)

Their parents were John Shields and Mary McKeown (Died in 1970)

If you think your family crosses mine then drop a line!

Thanks jules37 - that actually fits as John Shields death certificate has his place of death listed as 49 sidney street so must be the same Mary shields

Hi All
1938 Gores Kellys Directory has Patrick Shiels, Baker
49 Sidney Rd Bootle.
He would have been the head of the family to be listed or his name on the rent book.

Forgot to add that my brother used to be good mates with Paul Shields who was Mary's grandson. They went to school together in Netherton (Countess of Derby) and kept in touch when we moved to Sidney Road.

Thanks thommos sister, lots for me to go on. I am going to follow up the sidney street lead and see if it leads anywhere as one of Johns sons was called patrick (shiels) born in 1914 and I think he also had a brother called patrick (born 1882)

Shields family.

her husbands name was Tony , I think they later moved to the Sefton estate
if that is any help.

You're welcome MJS
So Patrick & John from 1901 could be correct??

Census taken 10yrs after this has a Patrick SHIELS living in W Dby district aged 29yrs. (1882)
There's also Mary Ellen Shiels 29yrs.
Perhaps his mother Mary aged 56yrs.

Lancs BMD have a marriage for a Patrick SHIELS to Mary Ellen Dowdall in 1903.
It's W Dby R.O or registrar attended which usually means an R.C wedding.

If this is your Patk from 1882, they also had a son Patk...mother's maiden name Dowdall in 1913 as SHIELS.
also James 1916 & Elizabeth 1918.

If someone shouted Hiya Pat in the Shiels household, how many would have answered...just joshing

Some of our great guys have later directories than myself and will probably look in at this post.

I digressed from John.

Hi Thommos sister, that was funny about calling out Pat. This is also my family, Mary McKeown was my Grandmother. The family was and is full of Johns too (my Dad and my brother included) Thanks for helping piece the puzzle together. Linda (nee Shields)
