Hi All, can anyone help my memory out ? Rob Kellett asks me if I recall the name of the little school that occupied the old Gun Site on the Bootle Golf course, in Boundary Lane.
And also if Netherton Moss is the same as it has always been ? R R

Will ask my mom about the little school she may know, as for Netherton Moss I went to that school for about 1 year, 1964 I think it was. We lived on Fleetwoods lane with my Aunt and cousins. We came from Canada you can go to friendsreunited web page and look up some old photos some of the past students posted there. Great web page for getting in touch with old school mates!
smile it makes people wonder what you have been up to!
RON one of Annes brothers lives off Swifts Lane and he is going to ring me tomorrow hopefully with the answer about the school , he thinks it was a prefabricated building OK Amigo

Hello Rob & Ron,
I went to Netherton Moss (early 50's), when it was divided into A & B the buildings were new and off St. Oswalds Lane and behind Marion Sq. Shops (sorry can't remember all the names of the roads). The buildings became Bootle Boys Grammer School. The buildings are no longer there and there is a park there. Hope this helps. Will see this area next week whilst I'm back visiting.

Hi All,
Obviously all the new building and other arrangements must have gone on since I left in 1952.(I did post another reply but it was on the long lost Bootle friends site, under Jacky Woods,I think).
I have been trying to think of the name of a teacher at the school who used to live in Netherton Village, her son was a mate of mine at the time. They lived just across from the Village Green(where there was a Horse Chestnut Tree, battered to death for our conkers)on,I think, what is now Netherton Lane.Of course it's all changed now, last time we were over in Liverpool we went past St Oswalds,up to Netherton Village, doesn't seem the same without the old swing-bridge,with the Post-Office and shop just on the village side of the bridge, many's the time I walked there from Litherland and bought sweets with the few Pennies I had.
Got to go before I start crying.
Rob

Sterrix lane C.E. and Holy Ghost Annex R.C. where the names of the two separate schools on the old army camp. I went to the Holy Ghost Annex round about 1957 untill1959, and it was renamed Our Lady of Walsingham in about 1958.
Cheers Joe.
You are right Joe, I went to the "Army Huts" which was Sterrix Lane C.P. before moving to Netherton Moss. Ken

Hi Folks
I was a playground assistant in the old army huts.I worked for the 3rd form juniors Our Lady Of Walsingham. The teachers would retreat into the staff room from 12 o clock to 2 o clock and we would be left with the kids.I loved it.The money I earned would be spent in the rent office in the Marion Square paying my general and water rates, they were combined then.I used to get there by walking across the golf course on a public path.Happy days
Take Care

It's good to hear that, Maureen. It was a long shot anyway
A sign of getting old I suppose is that everything seems so much better then - a better world, a better place, nicer people
Take care yourself,
Phil

I remember the Fortacrete well .I think I remember the family, but, didn't know them well.Things did seem rosier in the past and nicer.....people were not so aggresive. It's so sad when a mother and child drift apart and the longer it goes on the harder the breach is to mend.

Hi Xandy1
I've moved this over to our "Looking For" section. Red Ron posted this originally in our "Talk about the History of Bootle" so I will also leave it in our Bootle History section for more replies.

This photo brought back many memories for me. I went to the 'annexe' (Holy Ghost as was) from 1966-68 the other years were spent down the lane in the main school but we only stayed there until we we were about to go into the 3rd year than it was up to the annexe. That lane was freezing in the winter with the wind blowing from the golf course on the left (complete with air raid shelter) and the field leading to the Strand Park on the other side.
I was usually late and knew about it when the big white gate was pulled across the rough road between the huts - ours was the second lot of huts on the right and we were 3A and 4A, we stayed in the same classroom for the whole time we were there. I remember across the road there was a hut that housed the toilets adjoining the staff hut, these led onto the playground at the back then there was another hut that housed 3/4c and then the dinner/assembly hall. At the side of our classroom was the cinder path leading onto the golf course (I think it's still there)
One of the teacher's there used to give us orders to get in line by shouting (sergeant-major style) 'Attenshun! Right Wheel! Left wheel! Quick march!' He must have been in the forces I can't remember his name but we marched smartly to our classrooms.
I remember when it was foggy you couldn't see your hand in front of your face going up Sterrix Lane.
I'll shut up now.

I used to live in Hector Street Bootle but moved to Sparow Hall around 1945/46 - after the war. I attended Holy Name school with my brother Tom.
Does anyone know of or the whereabouts of Maureen McCarty, Dorothy Curran, Pat Whiteside, Marcella Pierepoit and Joan Diggins, also Tony Cornwell and John Horrockes????

After long absence just returned to read posts. I think the name of the Netherton Moss teacher that lived in Netherton Village was Mrs Harwood. I was matey with her son David, and I think he had an older brother Peter.

I remember the annex well and the “spooky toilet”. Cut my leg on tan air aid shelter and I’ve still got the scar from the stitches! We use to call the women on the humpty back bride “quick sharp” for obvious reasons. Mr MacGee was the head honcho in the annex and Miss Wright was the needlework teacher . Didn’t like me cos I couldn’t sew! Spent many a morning running up the cinder path. Mo!
