At todays meeting of the Bootle & Orrell History Group, we had two prospective members. A Jimmy McHale from the south end of Liverpool. And a Tommy Howard, ex- York Street. He would like to hear from anyone who remembers him or his family. He is also looking for any of the Mason family who lived down the lane, especially the boxing family members, Tommy,George, and Bobby Mason. They belonged to the Maple Leaf Boxing Club, in the 50-60's.

Hi Folks,

Just to let you know that Tommy and Bobby Mason are still around.
Unfortunately we lost George in 1991 after quite a long illness.
This is Bobby and I must say, I feel it is an honour to be
remembered after all these years and thanks for that.
At the moment, we are trying to compile George's boxing history,
and we are in need of things like photos, press cuttings and
programmes, concerning his career. If by chance anybody can help
with any of these things, please get in touch.
Peter W mentioned two of his colleagues, Jimmy McHale and Tommy
Howard. I remember Jimmy very well, he was a good fighter.
Tommy Howard, said he would like to get in touch. Tommy,
feel free to contact whenever you like. Maybe we can swap yarns.
I look forward to it.

Hi Anne,
Funny, I knew an Ann Howard and a James McCourt, but they
both lived in Bootle all of their lives.
However, Billy Maloney is a different matter.
Billy and I were schoolmates at five years of age, and even then, we were members of Bootle amateur boxing club, in Cedar St.
we travelled around Liverpool and districts boxing as the Bootle
Midgets Obviously, we never boxed to a decision and everything was
exhibition.
I think Billy lived at 22 Pine Grove and during those days, I spent a lot
of time at his house.
We did this for about three years and then the boxing became quite
serious and we had lots of opponents.
We eventually went our own ways, but we carried forward lots of
memories. A great lad. Thanks Anne.

Hi Anne,
Yes, Billy did have brothers and I know Vincent now lives
in Toxteth. I don't know too much about his parents, but I think they
were both there in 1936/7.
I went to school, St Monicas, with both the McCort brothers and I remember, once or twice calling for Jimmy at a house in
Hawthorne Road.
I remember a Tommy Mitchell who lived at No2 pine Grove. He was
in the Royal Navy at one stage. Also, the name Evan Evans, comes to mind living in that road at that time.
My relatives include the Wildman family from Kent Street, do you
remember them. It really is a small world.

Yes Jimmy lived in 337 hawthorne rd .
Billy married one of the 'Handly' girls ,from Well lane,Jimmy married
''Joan Sheanan'' from Well Lane she had a brother Joe ,.
I think 2 Pine grove was bombed as i only remeber it as a bombsite

Sorry dont remeber 'Wildmans.' but i think you could be wrong about
' Evan Evans' my cousin ,'Everlyn Smurthwait'' married his brother
Dicky/Richard and at that time they lived in' Waterworks st' there
