Used to love a game of bowls in Derby Park - don't suppose you can still hire woods in the parks any more????

Hi Bernie, don't put yourself down, when I played you you were playing very well, especially as you are only new to the game.
I recognise quite a few faces on those photographs Bernie.

Incidentally, if anyone is interested, our team at 'The Crescent Bowling Club' are always looking for new players.

Does Derby Park still have 3 bowling greens. Used to play at the top one, many many years ago cheap to rent the woods

It’s mostly lawn bowls here (flat) and everyone wears white.
I played a couple of games last year, aged 69 and brought the average age of the team down.
There used to be a green right in the middle of London at Finsbury Square, surrounded by office blocks , very popular with local office workers but it disappeared a couple of years ago to accommodate a shaft for the CrossRail project. :D Ken

I am a "bowling widower".Sheila bowls nearly every day but lane (flat) bowls and in fact is the ladies club champion
and along with her lady's doubles partner has just received their pin for scoring a perfect end in tournament play.
Cannot have crown greens because of the weather extremes in winter.Pouring rain then a deep freeze plays havoc
with the greens.
Our prefab in the South Park was just across the road through the park from Miranda Road and maybe 50 feet away from the bottom bowling green.

Bernie R, the greens at Victoria Park Waterloo might still be open to all comers if you can get hold of a set of bowls -it's 20 years since I was last there but whilst it was members only in Moorside Park (my road then) Viccy Park was readily available and free of charge.
Here in West Kirby one of the greens in our local park is free and open to all comers every morning. Whilst walking through the park a few weeks ago we got chatting to a group of really friendly bowlers. They went into the club house and came out with a couple of sets of old bowls to lend us for practice before applying to join one of the clubs!
It seems that Bill's team at the Crescent are not alone in looking for new members.

Bernie, I hope that wasn't a league match at the Dockers Club, as the rules of bowling state that no bare chests allowed( very unbecoming) :D . That applies to the men as well. :) :)
