Oooops got that one wrong Jurgen. Midfield was controlled by a 4ft midget Gomez. One to forget.

VAR dominates again but fair result in a lousy game at Brighton.
Weak ref but Robbo silly for their pen so late on.
Jurgen needs to find a better solution than Neco Williams as cover for TAA, the lads not ready.

61 years ago today Bill Shankly became LFC Manager. December 1 1959. It was a red letter day.
First European Cup game was August 17 1964. Another red letter day.

Playing against Knattspyrnufélag Reykjavíkur of Iceland in the Laugardalsvöllur Stadium.
Pictures below from the Fussball geekz twitter feed.

Ajax tonight. Only the 4th time the two have met. One win, one defeat, one draw.
Last meeting at Anfield December 14 1966. One hell of a night on the Kop.
The steam rising from the crowd meant those at the back couldn't see the pitch. Probably the worst crush I've been in at Anfield.

On this day in 1959 Bill Shankly became manager of Liverpool FC.

Bern, when you asked on your Maradona thread who else would bring about such a reaction ...........

Well that could have gone either way last night.
Credit to the kids though, including Neco they all did very well and we might finally have a back up goalie.
Where was Becker ?
I thought the defence was well marshalled by Fabinho & Matip but the superstars up front were having an off night with Mo and Mane poor.
Still we qualified top so Happy Days.

Alisson did his hamstring at Brighton. Due to be out for several weeks.
Idiots on the net are blaming Liverpool's physios and training. You couldn't make it up.
He went with Kelleher because of his footballing skills.
Can't imagine Adrian being seriously considered after the Athletico game.
Love Fabinho at centre back. Reminds me of what Barca did with Mascherano.
Next game, Wolves at Anfield Sunday 19.15. Awful injury to Jiminez at Arsenal.

I thought Curtis Jones and Kelleher were very good last night, but I wish Fabinho would take more responsibility for passing the ball forwards. Every time he has it in open space, he goes to pass forward but then hesitates and turns around and passes back, giving someone else the responsibility of passing it forward. Apart from that he played really well.

Modern day football Bill,
They would rather go 3 sideways and 2 back than risk losing possession with a forward pass.
I liked the way Kelleher was prepared to kick upfield rather than tippy tippy around his own box as seems the preference these days.

I was at that match Dan, Banks was brilliant. Leicester City were the scourge of Liverpool in those days.

There was some bad blood towards Gordon Banks after the press published a picture appearing to show him laughing at St John
after the game. All nonsense. You can't always believe everything that you see.
I've posted the picture, the Saturday morning Sports Echo and the Guardian's match report from the LFC History site.

Another great performance from JK's adjusted team.
I worked the game and couldn't believe the noise generated by our 2000 fans - anyone watching on TV, that was genuine, not enhanced by the way.

Even if it's true that they ended up righting any wrongs with it, nobody can say that VAR enhanced that LFC CL game - totally ruined it in my humble opinion.
I'm not against the principle of VAR but its application needs seriously sorting out.

I think it would help if operation of the hardware was handed over to professionals.
The muppet in the VAR booth must have been wearing boxing gloves last night.
The refereeing fraternity are bringing the game into disrepute.
VAR reviews ought to be time limited. How can it take more than a minute to spot a clear and obvious error?
9 minutes extra time. That was disgraceful.
The game was a side show. It wasn't a football match. It was a VAR show.
Would have been more entertaining, and fairer, to watch the managers play each other on a PS5.

VARcical again!
As to the game, if Origi and Keita can't show up in that team against opposition like that what's the point in having them on the books, move them on. I'm not sure Minamino is at the level required either.
TAA's distribution was poor last night but again the young Goalie stood out. I half expected him to break his leg when he gave the penalty away!

Our midfield is poor, I can't wait for Thiago , Fabhinio and the Oxford to play together in midfield.

I'm not a big lover of Gini Ken, Henderson has improved and was one of our best players last season however I'm quite impressed with the skill of Thiago, the defensive qualities of Fabinho and the Ox was playing great until he got injured. All of the above can play in the rotation system but I cringe when Hendo, Gini and Kieta are selected together.

Agree re Keita, Ed, he's ok in flashes but a bit delicate for the Prem.
Gini might move on this Summer and Hendo geting on so a new midfield needed.
Would love the Ox to come good but haven't seen enough of Thiago but what I have seen I liked. We also have Curtis who will only get better.
Stay well mate.
