Squad for the 1960/61 season. Shankly's first full season. Finished 3rd in the old second division.

Amazing how many legends are in that photo.

Great pic Dan.
The beginning of the good times. I loved that kit, haven’t seen anything better since.
Is that Tommy Smith next to Cally, he looked fierce at that age?

Hi ,I think the player next to Ian Callaghan is Johnny Morrisey who eventually went to Everton. GR

Initially thought it was Smithy, but he would have just turned 15 when that photo was taken. He didn't sign pro forms 'til April 5 1962.

Reading the obituary never realised Sir Matt Busby tried to sign Tommy Smith and Chris Lawler, for £50,000, in their Central League years.

Busby, coach and assistant manager to George Kay at LFC in May 1944. Released for the manager's job at Old Trafford February 1945.

As bad decisions go, can't think of many worse.

Whilst still a Liverpool player, recommended the club look at a young Billy Liddell,( signed July 27 1938).

Sir Matt Busby was the first ex-Liverpool player to be knighted.

Don't know if this has been posted before.

August 1960 wage bill. £23 per week would equate to approximately £505 per week today.

Whatever happened to " Football's a simple game"?.

Score 60-70 goals minimum.

Concede 30-40 goals maximum.

Top 4 finish probability >95%. Haven't crunched the numbers, used The Force.

All those years playing Football Manager on the Commodore 64, count for nothing. Life just isn't fair.

Then you need an analyst to analyse the performance of the analyst
What would Shanks and Paisley make of it?
Not a bad job though, good salary and a ticket to every game.

Vacancy at Leicester City last month.

Last season, Manchester City used SportsCode software and Arsenal used nacsport for their analysis.

If it hasn't already happened, it won't be long before we see offensive, midfield and defensive analysis teams, in the stands, providing real time

feedback to the technical area.

Missed out set pieces. From City this month.

Feature article about LFC from last month's New York Times Magazine.

Very good article , if you can get your head round the concept of "redirecting centering passes"- heading crosses, to you and me.

Can't wait for the banners on the Kop this season.

Mean and nasty maybe, but a savage put-down of the opposition.

1-0 to The Reds. Game over.

Another very talented Dutch centre back signed.
Young Sepp Van Den Berg (17) signed for LFC for a nominal £1.3 million, preferring Liverpool ahead of Bayern and Barca.
Look forward to him developing under the guidance of the great Dutchman VVD.
One for the future.
