Space - The Final Frontier...
This is amazing.
It's a 3-hour video of the universe with cool ambient background music.
Just save it as a link and use it to display the cosmos on your computer screen, TV, whatever... for just chilling out when doing stuff.
Doing the ironing, the washing up, hoovering, on the bog reading the newspaper.

Anyone remember Liverpool band Candlewick Green?
My uncle Derek (Derek Cleary - lead guitarist) was in this band way back in the 1970s and has just posted the first part of video stuff remembering the band, and it's history.
The Candlewick Green Story (Part1).
Always remember them being on Opportunity Knocks with Hughie Green 5 weeks in a row.

I remember them as my brother had a signed copy of it. He worked as a barman in Southport at the time, so I imagine he must have seen them live in the Floral hall or something like that.
Did your uncle have family in Orrell, Mack? I remember a John Cleary living across the road from me.

WOW Mack, that took me back! I remember most of those songs but had no idea Candlewick Green had roots in Bootle.
The way they dressed and performed was so typical of the period just before the Glam Rock era.
You must be very proud of your uncle!

Hiya Phil,
I spoke to the family this evening and the name John Cleary doesn't ring a bell.
Cheers Bee Yep the style early to mid 70s always reminds me of the gear they wore in 'Whatever Happened to the Likely Lads?'
My dad wore the same style on stage back then too when he was gigging the clubs. His stage name was Larry Collins.
Derek and my dad used to be in a band together before the Candlewick Green days, along with Derek's wife Sheila, My dad's sister.
Bezzies,
Mack

So now we know where your own talent come from Mack.
I bet a fair few of your members saw your dad, uncle and auntie on stage in the clubs and dance halls back in the day. So many local dance halls with live music in the 60s and early 70s. And lots of church youth clubs held dances in the church halls too; all with live bands before Disco arrived!

Video just uploaded for all residents living on the Dark side - The One Eyed City.
Birkenhead
Why is it called the 'One Eyed City'?
I remember ages ago someone answered this back in the 80s. These young uns today don't have a clue.
Here is the original answer I got told back then. Can't remember who told me this though.
You get on the boat in Liverpool, sail across, get off the other side, hold your hand over one eye and take a quick look, get back on the boat and then sail back to Liverpool.

No Mack, that can't be the answer; you need to stay a while and have both eyes open to enjoy the wonderful view looking back across the Mersey.
Fab vid, thank you for sharing. x

Thanks Bernie, that was brilliant. The Wirral really is a bit like an island. I love living along the Dee coastline but the views from New Brighton across the Mersey lift my heart.
If anyone fancies treating themselves there's a trip on a R.I.B. you can do in summertime from West Kirby. It takes you up river to Heswall then comes back to W.K, around Hilbre island and out toward the Mersey estuary. With good weather it's a really interesting is well as beautiful trip.

FYI;
Eight of the "Fiddlers Ferry" towers will be demolished this Sunday 3/12/23 between 8am & Noon.
So expect some "War of the Worlds" type phone calls to Radio Merseyside...!!

Hi Keith ...thanks for remembering about my bike wheel (!)......Yep ...all sorted @ 'HOBSONS' on Walton Vale (next to 'Spoons')....he sourced a new rim, re-built with it with new spokes, fitted & tweaked the brakes.....Perfect (£90)....fully recommend them (used 'em before).
I did reply on original thread but am happy to give HOBSONS a plug here as they're a family local business.
Meanwhile.....in order to "get back on thread".........here's footage of the 'Fiddlers Ferry' demolitions....(like something from 'Dr Who' !)

Further to the snippet on the "Memory Lane" post in the history section of the forum regarding "Zeppelins!.......
I watched a brilliant programme yesterday (Thursday 8th Feb ) on PBS channel (#187 0n Virgin & #174 on Sky,) called "Attack of the Zeppelins".....it was jaw dropping how they set about trying to defend against them.........they usually repeat stuff or try 'catch up'.
Couldn't find it on 'You Tube'.......but here's a 10 minute taster ;
Cheers

Amazing that Paul.
Imagine them hovering in the sky above today.
Must have been terrifying.
The technology is still being developed still today as tourism.

Another SPOOKY video...
Has anyone heard of Kane Pixels?
He is a young filmmaker responsible for the 'Backrooms' videos.
Everyone started copying his work, however this is a new original one he has recently created.
The lad is 18 years old and has created a new video about finding a hole in the ground next to a tree and discovering a hidden abandoned shopping centre bottom of the stairs after venturing down the staircase.
It's super creepy, and he made it all on his computer so everything you see once you go down the hole is computer generated using the software 'Blender'.
Video is 46 mins. Watch out for the rolling giant once he gets lost in the abandoned shopping centre... Don't get lost down there...
