It's Good Friday and the sun is shining so it would be rude not to pick it.

Master Lennon turned 58 yesterday.

In 1984 this became the first of his two #6 UK hits, the other being Saltwater in 1991.

Interesting pick this week I think - definitely a break from the norm, as not one of the Beatles tunes artists generally cover.

Because today would have been Gerry Rafferty's 74th birthday (d'ya see what I did there? ).

Wonder where Paul got the title of the album from, Bernie?

Not a clue Phil.

Maybe Keith may know?

I'd read that the title of the album came from a scrambler circuit that Paul visited in Preston, Lancashire. Hence, Red Rose Speedway.

Nice track Bern.

Strangely haunting, harmonic ditty that was the B side of 'Ticket to Ride.

John once described this as "an attempt to rewrite 'This Boy' that didn't quite work".

Cracking "b" side Bern. As with the This Boy track on the out takes this one also featured the boys getting the lyrics wrong ending up in heaps of laughter.

One of the very few Fab Four tracks, and I don't know why, that I never took to.
Always thought that it was a bit C & W.

Apologies for this clip as it won't suit all, but it's Kylie's birthday today (53).

On this date in 1969, the Beatles single "Ballad Of John and Yoko/Old Brown Shoe" was released in the U.S.

A chart topper here but peaked at #8 over there.

We had the other side of the single last week so let's flip it over as it was UK #1 on this date in 1969.

Just discovered that today is 'Global Beatles Day'! Hadn't even realised such a thing existed.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_Beatles_Day

The date was chosen as, on this date in 1967 The Beatles performed "All You Need Is Love" live on the TV program "Our World", which was beamed around the globe.

The single topped the chart for 5 weeks.

Remember the tv program vividly Bern. Think Mick Jagger and Donavan were in the tv studio at the time.
I bought the Our World LP, still have it in the loft 😁

One from the early days when they still did cover versions on their albums (this a Chuck Berry tune).

Love that one Bern thanks. Amuses me that I can still remember the words to all the early songs when I couldn't remember the poetry I needed for exams around the same time... good job I loved Shakespeare or I'd never have passed Eng Lit :D
