RIP Bernard Cribbins

A nice sunny day tune from Revolver which coincidentally had its UK release on this date in 1966

On this date in 1989 'this one' peaked at #18 in the UK chart.

Have to say - Flowers in the Dirt is one of my favourite Macca albums.

I see Maccas brother in law John, Lindas older brother died a couple of days ago.

Still never listened to Flowers in the Dirt, must give it a whirl on Spotify.

I remember quite some time ago that the only vinyl LP of the Beatles that I did not have was the soundtrack of Help.Tried to get it from somewhere in Canada but no luck for about 2 years of searching. Our eldest daughter Sarah happened to be going to UK that year so I asked her if she could look for it in Liverpool. No luck even down at the Albert Dock Beatles shop even after I told her she could not come back home to Canada without it  She found it for me in Edinburgh when she and her husband went to the Edinburgh Tattoo but she also bought me a copy of the Dandy annual for 2013 autographed by the artist that drew Desperate Dan.He was happy to think that 71 year old still bought and loved the Dandy characters even though all the captions had to be politically correct. No more "pesky injuns"
it has to be those" annoying native Americans!!"

Nice one Matt.

Shameful that the PC mob impacted upon such things as The Dandy though.

On to this week's fab four ditty - not a classic but it was UK #1 on this date in 1966 as a double A side with Eleanor Rigby

Keith, nobody can really blame you for that mate

This week's choice.

Today would have been Billy Preston's 76th birthday - died 06/06/06.

He was only non-Beatle to be given a credit on a Beatles recording at the band's request - enjoy the 1969 single "Get Back".

Great single, always reminds me of being at Bootle Tech in 1969.
Billy Preston was a great keyboard player and singer. His
"That's the way God Planned it" is excellent.

To round off Beatles week we went to see This Girl, The Cynthia Lennon Story at the excellent Hope St Theatre on Sunday.
If it comes around again, id strongly recommend it.

I concur with your opinion of Billy, Keith, the 'fifth' Beatle.

After yesterday's awful news there can only be one Fab Four ditty today.

RIP Ma'am - goes without saying but, you will be missed. :(

Today marks 45 years since we lost the great Marc Bolan.

Possibly a little-known, fact but this 1972 UK #2 for Ringo was inspired by his friendship with Marc.

See article in link below if interested.

I think Ringo starred in and directed Marcs film Born to Boogie.
Here's an interesting re do of the same track by Ringo.

Spot on Keith - Ringo did appear in, and was either producer/director of Born to Boogie. I recall queuing up to see it on the ABC. Elton John also featured.

Think the best we can say about Mr. Starkey - as a singer he makes a great drummer!

Sorry Bee

Apparently The Beatles recorded 45 takes of "Happiness Is a Warm Gun." on this date in 1968; so here's yet another version from 50 years later.

Love these lyrics.

She's well acquainted with the touch of the velvet hand
Like a lizard on a window pane
The man in the crowd with the multicoloured mirrors
On his hobnail boots
Lying with his eyes while his hands are busy
Working overtime
A soap impression of his wife which he ate
And donated to the National Trust

The first record I ever bought and indeed the first of many Beatles singles I bought from a record shop on Walton Vale.

This, their first single, was released 60 years ago on Wednesday gone; so as Sunday would have been John's 82nd birthday, let's enjoy his harmonica...

I have the red Parlophone label single version of this track which I believe is the one without Ringo playing drums.

There is a hairdressers locally, cheesily called
"Love Me Do"

Happy birthday Sir Cliff - 82.

Nice sunny morning so it fits the weather too (even if it does end abruptly).

Brand new (well last Friday 😉 ) treatment for this track from Revolver - pretty apt given all the tax shenanigans going on lately.

" if you get to cold I'll tax the heat"
How prophetic.
Bern is this the one that The Jam should have been done for nicking the riff for Eton Rifles.
