Wham and Maria Carey haven't been UK #1 at Christmas - the one you missed was Shaky in 1985 with Merry Christmas Everyone (that one had its release held over from 1984 as the record company realised it would be steamrollered by the Band Aid single).

The answer is actually 54 - es, 54.
48 countries share mainland Africa plus there are six island nations which are part of Africa
If you Google "Countries of Africa" it lists them all according to the region in which they are found.

Ok as we have no takers I assume nobody knows so..... he was a British journalist named Arthur Wynne who emigrated to USA. His father was the editor of a newspaper called the * Mercury. Can anyone guess the city he was born in?
