Bernie, The Tornados do not have an 'e' in their name, and so the clue fits .

8. Could even be ABC? (But then again!)

Not them Shelagh. I am really surprised as I thought 8. Would go straight away. It is definitely the easiest one. Go through the clue very slowly writing down things that appertain to each part.

Just a different way of seeing things, Bill :)
Thought Be-B certain after A time..time being BC = ABC (probably more straight forward than that) have to wait and see :)

Shelagh, it was good reasoning by your good self, but you would be using the B twice( to follow the A & for the time BC) and I wouldn't use one part of the clue twice.

Only about seven to go

Stab in the dark for 4, is it Hot Chocolate?

Sorry Phil, incorrect. If a word like 'hot' was in the answer, then I would never use it in the clue, as that would make it too easy.

Bill, clues for 4 seem to fit a group from way back, Three Dog Night?

9. Russell Watson?

Not Three Dog Night Shelagh.
I am not lecturing here, just trying to show you how I write my clues :)
I am assuming you get 'night' from the word 'dark' in my clue, but the 'dark' is at the start of the clue, and so it will be at the beginning of the answer. The same goes for 'dog' which I am assuming you are associating with 'hot', but 'hot' is at the end of the clue and so will be at the end of the answer. This is why I say go through the clue slowly from the start, reading it bit by bit.
Don't over think things, the answers are right there in front of you just written in a different way.
I hope you don't take offence at me telling you all of this, I am just trying to help everyone understand my clues :D :D

Not Russell Watson Shelagh.
I can see where you get Watson (What's on?) for the last part of the clue, but I cannot see how Russell fits with the first part of the clue?

Bill, yes, I am used to the format of Bill clues, been doing them long enough :)
Clue; "It was dark, then another group in the street got hot"
Could also be read as, "It was night, then another group in the street (implying there was already a group/groups in the street) got hot, wrongly presumed that word hot could lead to hot dog. Concluding that answer might be a "Three Dog Night"

Explanation for second guess;
Russell is a type of walking stick, similar to the fancy swine sticks, except, hand grip is designed as a Jack Russell and not a pig!
Very different from the swine sticks used in slaughtering..thinking outside the box again, can't help myself
Had another name in mind, 'Willie Watson' country singer, but couldn't find a stick or pole to match him, so decided to go with Russell...wish I hadn't now

sorry for confusing you Bill, try not to let it happen again :)

Hi Shelagh, what I was trying to say in my very awkward way  was that the answer could not be Three Dog Night because Night would have to be the first name because 'dark' was the first part of my clue. Also Dog would have to be the last name as 'hot' was the last part of my clue. I write my clues in the order that they appear in the answer.
I hope I am not confusing you as much as I am now confusing myself :D :D

Time for some clues.

2. A group 70s
4. A group 70s
5. A Group 60s
6. Female singer 90s
7. Female singer 90s
9. A group 90s
10. Rap Naughties

Take No 4 which we were discussing, if you start at the beginning of the clue and work out the first word, you will probably find that the rest of the answer will fall into place :D

Good luck
Bill
