WILLIAM'S TOFFEE WORKS.

Image

Recently someone was asking for information on the above factory.
This photograph, along with others was taken by me, on 16th April 1994 the day the chimney was demolished.
I also have the demolision on video which I took myself).
During the demolition I spoke to a lady who told me that she was the Great Grandaughter of the founder of the works.
I cannot remember her name but it is kept along with other photographs in the Bootle and Orrell History Groups
archives which I will dig out in the New Year.
The lady lives in Crosby.
She said the only photographs she has is of her Great Grandmother in a studio portrait in all her finery.
She said she was hoping to bring over to the demolition an aged aunt who lives in the Isle-of-Man,
but she could could not make it.

More info as I remember it.

WILLIAM'S WORKS SITE

Top . Taken from Litherland Road canal bridge.
It shows the William's Toffee Works site after demolition.

Lower. Shows the Great-Great-Grandaughter of the companies founder.
I am still trying to find out her name.
I think the Crosby library may have the Bootle Times,
giving the report of the demolition of the chimney which took place 14th April 1994.

Was williams Toffee Works located on Well Lane or Waterworks Street? my brother and his wife lived in Well Lane Gardens and she worked at Williams; I always remembered at 'the break' the staff would all be standing around the main door wearing they're white head cover and coveralls smoking.

This was from the Liverpool Echo nostalgia series a few years ago. I think it's from the Britain From Above- English Heritage series.
It shows Williams Toffee Works in 1951.

here's a photo taken & fits your description beautifully .....and guess this is the perfect place to post it.
My mum Mary McCoy worked at Williams Toffee as a packer and was there in 1953 when she married my dad.
My mums not on the photo but on the back she has written (left to right ) Kathleen Lavery, Betty Upton, Joan Tritton, Sylvia Milne, Beattie Cottel or Cuttel the 6th lady on the end ?
It also says - In the Rec, by Williams Toffee Works, Bootle 1952-3

Looks to me like they are sitting on a roundabout in a park? ( shadow on floor)

Thanks Dan, enlightened now as to the workings in there, and thanks for enlarging the photo I was trying to post it in its own right....new to this site still working it out.

I can see that there's a Jimmy Laffery in your footy team photo wonder if he related to Kathleen Laffery on my mums pic???

Cheers
