Jan Did you hear about the young kids whom got burnt to death in ASH STREET in the 60s and i think their names were Clotworthy and i think there was 3 plus a adult and as it was in those days before fire alarms were invented they had no warning
I have them all about my home as they may save my own life and my all families and for the price of a few batteries

That gave me the creeps - my dead baby brother is buried there. And my mother never, ever got over it. Is the figure in 1940s clothing?Mack wrote:Bootle Ghost Stories

Hi
I mentioned in an earlier post that my sisters house is haunted,(she lives near Ash St mission) my nephew came to visit me and I was telling him about this website and mentioned about the ghost stories etc.
Well, he told me that their unwelcome visitors are playing up!
He has red indian fugurines in his bedroom and he arranges them in a certain way, so that they are facing the window as if they are looking out.
He went to his bedroom the other day and found that the figures had been turned around to face the door, one on the floor and another slightly chipped, that is not the first time that has happened with the figures being moved!
I accused him of having one too many lol, but he doesn't drink.
As the house is not mainly occupied during the day and my nephew has a lock on his bedroom door anyway.
My other nephew(his brother) was getting out of a taxi outside the house a few weeks ago, the taxi driver asked my nephew if he lived in THAT house, and pointed to where my sisters house is, my nephew of course replied that he did live there, the taxi driver told my nephew that he had a friend who lived in that house years ago, he then said, did you know it was haunted?
Well, my nephew told him about the things that had been happening in the house over the past few years, the taxi driver then said Rather you than me mate!
Needless to say, I don't visit my sister that often!

It is said that a lady walks around Bootle cemetery wall pushing a big old silver cross pram crying, looking for her child.
Last year the local milk man approached her by bootle library and ask her was she ok she just looked at him and carried on walking when he looked around she was gone ..

Hi, I don't live far from the cemetery.
I have seen that lady with the pram. one morning when I was going to do an 'early' on the buses.
Another driver has also mentioned he saw her one early morning.

I've told this story before but not on the Ghost thread. I lived at 37 Queens rd from 1947-1966 My older sisters and I all slept in the front bedroom. One sister swore that every night around midnight she saw a lady in a green robe standing over her just staring at her. Well we used to all laugh at her and think she was nuts. so one night she challenged us to stay awake to see her. We're all waiting ducked under the covers shaking and waiting. Then all of a sudden she says there there she is! do you see her she's standing right there next to the bed. we peeked out of the covers and saw absolutely nothing. we chalked it off as my sisters nuts. But then after our family all left that house and it was sold ...six months later there was an artical in the paper about the house being haunted that a lady in a green robe had been seen in the front bedroom. Since then the house has been occupied many times but all for short periods. I had two occasions when I visited home when it was empty.

I went to school at Roberts in Bootle and one of my friend's was named Anne Walker...her brother Robert had an accident on the school play ground and caught an infection which killed him at the age of 12....Anne's parents lived in Fairlie Close but her house was the corner house and her livingroom window looked out to Bootle cemetery...she had Robbie buried there so she could see his headstone from her window....often wonder if she had any sightings of him...he was such a nice boy.....

Somebody was asking ealier if anyone could shed any light on a certain ghost. Surely if you did that, it would become invisible.
Sorry, that's just me being mischevious, a bit like a poltergeist if you like.
No, my story concerns when I was driving by Bootle cemetery one cold, dark blustery winters night. I was surprised to see a young lady step out of the darkness from the wall into the beam of my headlights. She certainly wasn't dressed for the weather with just a flimsy mini skirt on and as it was 3 am with no pubs or pubsclse by or possibly letting out, I was a bit taken aback. She beckoned me to stop in a slow motion sort of way so I pulled up alongside her and asked if she was ok or needed a lift.
She just got in the passenger seat - just like that. The only words she muttered was that she was a witch. I was only half concentrating on what she was saying as at the same time, she was just positioning herself more comfortably in the seat which made her skirt ride up a little higher.
At that point she put her hand on my thigh and guess what... I turned into a side street.
I'm afraid I don't believe in Derek Akorah after he was found out faking on MH and I think Tom S is on such a good earner that a lot of his stories are now so vague and unquantified as to be true. I certainly don't recall anyone ever mentioning the Gerard Gardens serpent and I lived there long enough, there must be more Liverpool ghosts than living people by now. But fair play, why kill the cash cow
Having said all that, there is no-one with more supernatural or ufo or abductions or weird happenings type books than me or watch more documentaries on these topics and why - because I want to believe - but I deal only in the believable and with all this new technology, if we can't finally nail this by now - will we ever. Perhaps i'm just not pshycic enough to get the vibes - yes, that's a good excuse so we'll stick to that then.

Hiya Pamsy.
Sorry to burst the bubble but you can google plenty of 'ghost' site forums that make mention of the fact that to make good t.v. which feature Yvette Fielding poking cameramen and sound engineers in the dark (her husband is the producer) which is why she's on it, would you pick someone terrified of their own shadow and screams at least once per show if it wasn't for nepotism.
Derek had to pinpoint a 4 poster bed that was haunted, sadly for him, after going into one of his 'Sam' induced trances and ratlling off names that couldn't be corroberated, it was pointed out that they were in the wrong room and so it was not that bed.
It is now common knowledge that he DOES know his destination - which is supposed to be a secret (what - do you mean he doesn't just materiale there like in the beam me up scotty tube) - further to this, his wife is googling any known ghost stories about his intended destination on a lap top in the car. This can be verified again by googling the media reports, he is entertaining, he is theatrical, however, sadly for the gullible, that doesn't make him truthful and they're all in on it together as why kill the cash cow.
If orbs, which are a known scientific phenomenen of dust particles and light reflections are the best they can come up with despite all that 21st century technology then i'm afraid that for me, it's just not good enough.
Treat it with the pinch of salt that any fiction deserves though - then like the exorcist, the omen and poltergeist, it is marginally better than big brother

Oh you aren't bursting my bubble at all...ha...and I agree with you on what they do for ratings....my mother (Gracie 92yrs young) quit watching the show as she kept saying The woman is afraid of her own shadow so why does she have a show like that? and I saw a microphone attached to Derek's sleeve in that seance and he quickly covered it up.....so she quit watching it but I like to watch it for the historical side of it and I think some of the noises are real....not man made....

Ged many yearsago, my grandad told the story of passing Walton Hospital
late at night and in doing so saw a nurse walking towards him.
Being a polite man he said "Goodnight nurse" and was surprised when he didn't get a reply. He turned to watch her and to his great surprise she walked through some solid railings up to the hospital. He swore it was the truth. Barbara

Spooky Barbara, he hadn't been the Plough down the road had he?
No, honestly, i'd love to see something like that, it'd change my mindset completely of course and i'd be on every forum trying to make people believe the 'almost impossible' like people do on this thread and wouldn't it be frustrating if it was me then getting sceptics saying 'nah'.

Does anyone know exactly where the police box used to be? There are new railings just on the corner of Bailey Drive, was it there?Peter W wrote:In a previus post I mentioned about the time when a "Copper" I was in Police box at juntion of Watts Lane/Linacre Lane and about the ghostly sounds.
When I received the photographs of P.C. George Dalgano, last week, his daughter told me that, that particular Police box was his favourite. He told his family that when he died, he wanted to be buried in Bootle Cemetery as near to the back of the police box as possible. And he was!. I wonder if that was George I heard walking around the police box that night. Maybe he was still patrolling the beat after death. I dont believe he would have done me any harm if I had actually seen him, if I had known the story
beforehand. A further photogragh of George to follow.

SHAUN, years ago, on the corner of watts lane and if you wish bailey drive,
there used to be a hut on the corner of the cemetery, with bench seats fitted. and next to the hut was a mans toilet, then next, was the police box. the woman!s toilet was on the left side.later on, the moved the box slightly, so as to make an entrance next to the toilet, to the cemetery. and they also put a bus stop there. the nearest bus stop before, was near the cemetery gates.

A number of years ago a Charles Bedford used to write the Down Memory Lane feature in the Bootle Times. When he died, I took over from him with the name Raymond Patrick. one item was this postcard which appeared in the Bootle Times during World War II. But because of all the news about the war, it did not get the coverage it needed.
This so-called apparition appeared on the back windo of a house at number 4 Tennyson Street Bootle.
It looked liked the figure of the Virgin Mary. Those who saw it said it dissapeared then re-appeared over 7 days.
It caused an uproar in the area, It dissapeared in a week. Some believed it others did'nt. Does anyone remember it.
Peter W.
I've been here for a couple of hours however, this post caught my attention.
This photo was shown to me in the 60s by my school friend Brian Jackson of no. 4 Tennyson st.
We attended Grey st. Primary at the time and I lived in Akenside st. which I think is no longer on the map.
I have bookmarked and will re-visit
BTW I now reside in Australia
Cheers,
Larry

I used to go to St Mary's school just off Irlam road in the 70's and I always wanted to know what the situation with the Bibby's Ghost was all about.. People used to say if you went up onto the railway at a certain time, span round a few times his ghost would appear.. Frightening as a child but laughable nowLazza wrote:Does anyone in the Marsh Lane area remember being scared by stories of the ghost of John Bibby?
I could never accept the dare to walk down Bibbys' lane after dark......!

I can recall as a kid that John Bibby after dark would come out on his horse with his head carried under his arm looking for kids to kidnap. One night whilst playing in Peel Road park someone shouted John Bibby is coming and we all legged it home terrified
I think it was started by parents who wanted us kids in before it got dark.

Yeah it was definetly one of the urban legends of Bootle!
Who was he anyway? Sounds like the headless horseman of Sleepy Hollow!
