Hey smoked I hope you don't think I'm arguing with you just because I disagree with much of what you say; like I said "I recognize your right to be wrong". Your question:- "What kind of a God is that?" MY answer :- That's the lousiest god I can think of and if that is the god of the Roman Church then you'd do well to not go there with that Henry Fellow.smoked out wrote:evan i did not say i did not believe in god also you can believe in him if you want i have no objection.evanfawcett wrote:Hey Smoked, I believe it is your right not to believe in GOD. Do you respect my right to Believe in GOD? Please read your advert out LOUD.smoked out wrote:Who is this god ?
as the advert on the bus says "there is probably no god so get on and enjoy your life" or similar .
all this talk about god and people being used by god is fine if you go along the fairy tales.
"THERE IS PROBABLY NO GOD"....not definately but probably. Now, what if you are wrong?
It is not possible that we are both right. So, one of us must be wrong. Right?
Carlsberg is probably the best lager ,i cant prove it so i dont say it.
them nuns in st jimmy,s always said god would condemn us to the eternal flames if we did not kneel at his alter , what kind of god is that.
I'm probably going out on a limb here but is it possible that you knew a Jimmy Deering? His funeral was held at St Jimmie's in about 1968 ?
I'll come back to this if anyone responds to it.
Y'know smoked I can't prove that God exists but even if I could, you wouldn't believe me. As another post stated:- "Faith is a gift" and the giver of that gift is none other than God himself. It has nothing to do with nuns and priests or even the pope. Just give me some slack and I'll do the same for you.
You have a nice day now. E.

Educated ? I struggled through four years of pure hell at St Georges. Not being an academic I gave up on most subjects and can't think of a teacher I liked.evanfawcett wrote:Hi Ed, don't tell me you were educated at a Bootle school. Fletcher threated to expell me numerous times but I managed to struggle through. I think I was the only one that got "Six of the best" three times in one day. Happy days , I don't think so.
The only teacher I think I got the best of was one called "Donkey Balls". Can't remember his real name. He caught us climbing over the cemetary wall, bunking off school, and decided he,d chase us. He ended up falling off the wall and cracking his chin. Poor sod had to walk all the way around to get back into the school. Blood dripping from his chin.
Had a good laugh over that but suffered for it next day.

You are right....dialogue is important in developing understanding; now UNDERSTAND this, the hate and evil that exists in the heart of men will never be erased by diplomacy.
You may be thinking that I am a pessimist and a very unhappy person but you would be wrong; I believe in love, forgiveness, happiness and peace. I own these as my possesions and no man can take them from me. I love life and I love the author of life and I love all of those who gave their lives that I might live in freedom.
GOD bless you warbaby. Evan

I am intrigued by the juxtaposition of your "love of the author of life" and your belief in the hate and evil that exists in the hearts of men (sic). If everyone held the pessimistic view that this hate and evil is intractable we would have no hope for peace in this world.
Please don't ask your god to bless me.

That's not very nice warbaby where's your love and peace towards Evan? His God may not be your God but a blessing from any God can only mean good intentions surely??. Hate and evil have existed since the creation of the human race and will contine so, they both exist in everyone, have you not hated something or someone?? have you not had evil thoughts towards something or someone?? the level of evil and hate however is, thankfully, surpressed in most by Love and goodness. There will never be peace throughout the modern world whilst the biggest evil of all 'Greed' exists.

Since the human race was created ?
Now come on eddy you have no proof it was created at all , and no i dont know or can i prove it was not created , the jury is still out on that.
If we were created the mix was lacking some vital ingredient ,evolution ? well if we evolved why have i not got eyes in the back of my head , i read somewhere the eyes in the back of the head are very good for self preservation so you would think we would have em after all these million s of years , we would then know for sure who was minesweeping in the pub.

Created or evolved my point about hate and evil still stands. Evolution?? from what?? the big bang?? A lizard crawling from the ocean?? Who put the ocean there?? Like you said smoked no one knows for certain. Infinity makes my mind boggle, also eternity. Don't forget it wasn't that long ago that everbody thought the earth was flat. But one thing I do know it's faith that keeps me sane well saneish

I have enjoyed your tongue in cheek comments in this topic, especially the ‘non-prophet organisation’ one, but I remember it once being said that all doubters and disbelievers in a lift quickly turn to God when the lift cable breaks when they are on the tenth floor and they start plunging towards the ground. I suppose the same could be said of an Atheist parachutist when his main chute and the emergency one fail to open.
I bet you would pray for some divine intervention if your local pub developed a problem with its beer pumps on a hot summer’s evening
Just for the record I am not having a pop at any serious Atheist or mocking their beliefs.

When God created men he gave them free will. Man is not a puppet and God pulls the strings. All the wrong in the world has been caused by a very selfish creation. After all we were asked not to eat the apple from the forbidden tree and what did we do GRAB IT WITH BOTH HANDS.

I have been impressed by the way you have made your comments in this topic in such a concise and convincing way and although this topic has been widened and includes some humour, dannylewis should also be congratulated for starting such an interesting topic.
Dannylewis will no doubt have appreciated the support and respect that you and ‘smoked out’ gave him as well as that shown to him later by Bobhamo.

warbaby, obviously our dialogue didn't bring you to any understanig, or is this the way you always manage your conflict? Do you deny that evil exists side by side with Goodness? No need to be intrigued, everybody (with any sense) knows that love and hate exists in the hearts and minds of every man and woman; even you and yes, even me.warbaby wrote:You are right....dialogue is important in developing understanding; now UNDERSTAND this, the hate and evil that exists in the heart of men will never be erased by diplomacy.

Are you saying that hate and evil are NOT intractable ie. Not docile, not easily dealt with? You say your uncles died and your father came home from war a different man. I am grateful to them for the great sacrifice they made for my freedom.
The one sacrifice that was much greater than theirs was that of GOD'S son for the whole world; not just England.
HIS sacrifice not only saves me in this life but it has secured my eternal life with HIM.
HIS spirit now lives within me enabling me to overcome evil and hate. Note that enable means to make possible. Does this make me better than you?. NO of course not. Am I become perfect? NO. I am not saying that you are my enemy as such but Jesus said "LOVE your enemies". I don't need conflict management as a tool to be obedient to HIS willbut I do have to decide to obey. If I were to choose disobedience then I would lose my peace and that would hurt me more than it would you.
I'm so sorry that you are unable to understand what is going on in the world but there is no hope for peace in this world until the PRINCE OF PEACE returns. and this is not likely to happen until mankind brings us to the brink of total annihilation.
I will honor your request and I will not ask GOD's blessing on you but you do have my deepest sympathy for not being able to grasp the truth.
I know, I know, the truth is subjective. E.

What do they say about politics and religion??? It's getting a bit heavy guys and gals. Lets all agree to disagree and post in peace and harmony. (Does that sound crass??)

Hey Eddy, I've enjoyed so many of your responses and I think you have contributed a great deal to this subject . I do have a sense of humor and really I aint such as bad a guy as some may think. I'm just an ordinary fella who happens to believe in GOD and yes I do read the BIBLE but what's so bad about that? Would you rather I came into the pub with a belt full of explosives and take the lives of anywhere from 5 to 50 lives of the infidels?Eddy Lloyd wrote:What do they say about politics and religion??? Love, joy and peace are not only part of my vocabulary, they are my lifes experiences and I love to share them. I'm not asking anyone to believe what I believe (but that would be nice). I love Bootle and the people who live there. I'm sorry you find poitics and religion a bit heavy but there is a vast differece between Christianity and religion and if you don't dialogue the subjects you will never learn about them.
If I am right, then doesn't CRASS mean grossly stupid.
You Eddy are not grossly stupid, Stupid yes but grossly NO.
Hey, hey I'm only jokin ya.
You're O.K. Big Eddy.

Right on. Danny is to be commended for starting such an interesting topic that brought responses from so many different people. Had we stayed on topic though it would probably have fizzled out long ago but with so many different persoalities participating it just had to take off. I believe that's what a good topic ought to do. Because of Danny, I have enjoyed the thoughts and responses that HIS topic has evoked...Thanks Danny.
We've almost filled five pages on the disjointed topic and I for one am not disappointed and I'm happy to read your thought too Bill.
Keep them coming. E.
