[/i, Any real history buffs here !. I have 2 questions fer you. [1] I have just finnished a book on the Blitz, given all the devastation that was wrought on Bootle what happened to ALL the rubble from the demolished buildings ?.
[2] I remember many years ago being told when the old Snooker hall/Co Op on the corner of Ash street & Stanley Rd There was suposed to be a TUNNEL that led thro to RENNARDS Paint shop Stanley Rd Strand Rd.I find this a wee bit hard to believe, so can anyone confirm or deny it's existence. Thank you. ]

Last year l started some research into the connection to St Mary's Church and Littlewoods Building next to it.

Littlewoods Building was used for building things for WW1 and used local labour and material from wood merchants in the area.

So l started my research on why was the church bombed in the 40s was there a connection.
And the more l looked into it, yes there was they hit the wrong building.

I will explain my finding later, but l never did finish all of my research on this matter, but l will hopefully be able to do some soon.

Regards, Bobby

Hi Bobby, I will allways remember my old man telling me of the days & nights he & others spent on the end of a freezing cold hose watering down St Marys, & how they were so gratefull to the ladys who kept them going with tea & sarnys that winter week. So God Bless the WVS.

Bob Hamo, I cannot thank you enough fer all your information about the tunnels regard to C)-OP. My Grt Aunt Ann Dixon was one of those who escaped thro said tunnel to Little Strand Rd. This was my reason fer enquiry, I was told this story many years ago but never really belieed it till now. I lived in23 Ash Street , I never knew anybody lived above Liggets.
Once more many thankt, I will send the link to my Niece. v

Nice picture bob you can see why The canal was a excellent anti tank obstruction love to see one close up of the bridge early 1940s. Most of the bridge defences would have been taken a way by 1944 or even sooner thanks again bob I will be looking at it closely . Looks like the tar works has copped a few bombs. Regards ken

27 minute video of the Blitz rubble on part of Crosby beach by G2E Media..

Still photos don't give an idea of the scale of it all.

Amazing stuff. Some swearing in the commentary, just in awe of the material found.

It's well worth a watch if you have the time.

That was really interesting. It's been a long time since I was last down there, always a good walk, spotting various bits of buildings.
