St Alexander's Church (1957)

Postby sule » Wed Jan 02, 2019 11:50 pm

I'm hoping that someone on this forum can help me.

I am presently researching Mavis Blackburn RCA, an artist who lived in West Kirby and died in 2005. She had pictures accepted by the Royal Academy and was a member of the Royal Cambrian Academy in Wales.

Amongst the information I have found is that she was commissioned to paint some murals in the Lady Chapel of an un-named Church in Liverpool. She painted the murals in 1957. It has been suggested that the Church could well be St Alexander's Church in Bootle, as this was opened in 1957 and is noted as being unusual for a church of that date as it had a Lady Chapel.

I wondered if there was anyone on this Forum who knew anything about this ( or even if there were murals in the Lady Chapel).

I think Joe's pic is of the old church as I recall the 1957 version was much more modern in its style.

Don't have a pic of interior but here's the opening day...
