Just noticed 1861 census for Tailor's Arms as follows:

Tailor's Arms,
Gorse Lane Canal Bridge,
Orrell and Ford.

Peter COOKSON aged 29, publican, born Ormskirk, with wife and four children, all born Ormskirk, plus one female servant.

Is this how the canal bridge got it's name?

It stayed in the Cooksons family until 1970's. My Mother worked there for 20 odd years. It was always known as Cooksons :) K

I used to drink at Cookies quite a lot when I was home on leave from the army with it being just round the corner from my parents house on Sterrix Lane.

I used to manage the Betting Shop at the side of Cookson's on the canal bank.

Wasn't there a piggery at the rear of the pub?
