Joe Doran issued a statement, August 31, ending his 8 years of managing The Bucks.

It's been a difficult start to the season for the local clubs.

1928/29 Mersey Junior Conservatives. Bootle JOC Division 2 Champions.

Quote from Bill Fawcett;

"The last photo you put on of Merseyside Conservative Club 1928/29, has my uncle Syd Roberts on the right of the front row.

He signed for Liverpool in 1929 and played there until 1937."

Dan, the last photo you put on of Merseyside Conservative Club 1928/29, has my uncle Syd Roberts on the right of the front row. He signed for Liverpool in 1929 and played there until 1937. This is the first photo I have ever seen of him in the joc and so thanks for that.

That's great Bill.

The photo is from the November 11 1966 edition of the Bootle Times.

I've only got a couple of cuttings from the 1928/29 season .

The names I've got for the Mersey Cons are from the end of season goalscorer list.

H Jackson topped the list with 73 goals from 29 appearances.

P Burke scored 39 from 28, and J Devonport 32 from 25.

They played their home games on the South Park, and club secretary was HJ Ashcroft of 37 St John's Road.

It always annoyed me on Syd Roberts record it's always stated that he was signed from Bootle JOC (youth)

Given as Bootle Junior Ordnance Corps.

I' still haven't found any reference anywhere else to the Bootle Junior Ordnance Corps.

Thanks Dan, I have always wondered myself what the Junior Ordinance Corp was.

Dan. Those early years when I played for WIlliam Ross. Was a learning curve
Most of the team where just 16 old kids we where battered every week
Trying to play football on grounds that where mud baths was not easy
The older Joc teams. Muscled us youngsters out. Of the game
But whe still kept going. And a few years later we won the league cup. Against F P D
Changing then to lLinacre united. William Ross paid all the fees and kit
Like a lot of firms
With out your input Dan all this would be lost

I was wondering if 1966 might have been a bit early, but I noticed some well known names in the posts.

Dan. Most of the players. Mentions. Went on to play in all
The great teams up to the 80s.
Played against them all. Though not as classy as the stars :D
The JOC. Was the league to play in. Lasted till I was 35.
For the stand park but the injuries took there toll
I look back. To the hard tackles and a good few fights
Only ever got sent off once against the Mayflower :D :) :)
Thanks again Dan

Hi Dan,
Hope you are well.
Just popped back to say I'm happy to see you have moved to seasons before my time in the JOC.
I was fed up seeing my teams at the bottom and reading of our losses but I was mentioned in dispatches occasionally as starring for the valiant losers
Cheers
