Mr Scott on the right in a suit next to him on the left front row Albie Bell next to him Johnny King his sister was another great swimmer and so was Margaret Kelly from Canal st. Billy Sargent far left on the bottom row next to him, Billy Munrow from canal st, Ronnie Scott top row second on the left. Then Freddie Thomas goalie in the center top row. Great days for me. Well, thanks to our own Ernie Bunty Jackson and Paul Hudson

Look at that big fella on the right in goal think all the first division sides said that is what we need in goal

The interesting topic after a game in the JOC was usually "How have the reds/blues gone on" but sometimes we related to our National side.

The game of the century was England v Hungary 1953 which sent shock waves across English football, including the JOC.

I have tried, unsuccessfully, to find this comment by Billy Wright, the England captain, before the game. " Hey. Harry. Look at that little fat feller.(Ferenck Puscas). We will murder these". England were to lose only 6-3 but expected to get revenge in the return in Hungary. They lost that one 7-1

The only pre match comment I have found on Google is this, which is nearly as funny as the infamous " Kids don't win championships" by Alan Hansen.

"We completely underestimated the advances that Hungary had made, and not only tactically," Billy Wright said. "When we walked out at Wembley that afternoon, side by side with the visiting team, I looked down and noticed that the Hungarians had on these strange, lightweight boots, cut away like slippers under the ankle bone. I turned to big Stan Mortensen and said, 'We should be alright here, Stan, they haven't got the proper kit"

Just looking at the Winifred Sports post by Huddy's lad. It is not quite correct in that we won 4-1. Not 4.2 even though they scored first.

Anyway, I never let more than one get in playing for the great Winifred Sports.

Well done Bob for creating a great thread.

Really nostalgic photos of years gone by and which have re-kindled many happy memories. The Bootle JOC was a wonderful means of relaxation and interest for lads who, as they worked hard all week, looked forward to their game on Saturday, and played through hail, rain and storm, giving their all in competing whether they had a chance of success or otherwise.

I wonder what the girls thought when kit was returned home for mud to be scraped off, cleaned and ironed ready for the next, much anticipated, game.

Very few of those in these great photos 'made it' but everyone, to a man, had wonderful days and created friendships and memories that will never fade. The Bootle JOC was our main pastime and will forever remain a happy talking point of Bootle Bucks.

Thanks Bob for allowing us to join you and reminisce.

Ernie that's for the kind words how fast this thread has grown and fantastic memories for everyone l will carry on putting more pictures on.

This all started when my big brother got some pictures out to show me and l use to go to watch the great teams he played for.

Then l got into the JOC from leaving school and playing for Bootle YM and other teams met loads of cracking players.

Just before leaving school l worked with Henry Bradley on a Saturday morning he would show me some heading skills and how to ride a tackle along with my brother Albie showing me how to be a winger and cross a ball, the best thing was l played with my bother in the same team and so did my great football mate John and Charle Harris.

Well Ernie thanks again Bobby

That is the 'Pleasure' I remember.

Amazing that the refs allowed those games to start but for us anything was better than missing a game.

I would never be on anything like the first photo Bob. I never played for any of my schools and never got picked by anyone before I was 17 ?
